Pov Sage

"And why exactly did I have to help?" Meri sighs and falls back on my bed, "Arya didn't have time"

"No, he had to go to the dentist," I mumble and open the doors of my wardrobe.

"Where are you guys going anyway?" Meri asks. "To some gala thing of his mother's" I mumble back thoughtfully. What the hell am I supposed to wear to a gala? "Ha, then you have to wear a dress. You hate dresses" Meri laughs.

I sigh tiredly. Oh, dresses, that's it... "I barely have any dresses," I sigh. Meri rolls off my bed and comes to stand next to me at the closet. "That's true," he nods and sits back down on the bed.

"Seriously you're not going to help me or anything?" I say indignantly. "Nah, I think I'll go downstairs and watch TV until you're done," Meri says determinedly. He scratches the back of his head once and walks out of my bedroom. I watch him with wide eyes. He doesn't mean this!

"Mom!" I shout. "Yes Sage I'm here!" she calls back and what is the point here exactly?

When I finally find it in the bathroom, I do something I never expected to do. "Mom, do you have a dress I can borrow for tonight?" I ask. "You want to borrow a dress? Mine?" she asks in surprise, if I were her I would have reacted the same way. Me asking for a dress should be included as evidence.

"Yes," I simply answer her question. "Okay then" she chuckles and stands up. She walks ahead of me to her bedroom. "I've always kept this one," she mumbles. She gets down on her knees and pulls a box from under the bed. It is completely decorated with painted purple flowers. She removes the lid and all kinds of dresses appear.

"These are the dresses I wore when I was your age. When I went to my gala I wore this," she smiles as she takes a super beautiful blue gala dress out of the box. And yes, I know I just used the words beautiful and dress in the same sentence.

"Wow mom" I mumble. "Would you like to put it on?" she asks me. You can just see the love for all her memories from the look in her eyes.

I take the dress from her and let the stick slide through my fingers. "Of course," I smile at her. "Thanks mom" I mumble and I press a kiss on her cheek.

I look at myself in the mirror. I think I'm done. I did my hair and make up. I'm wearing my mother's dress. I nod once at myself in the mirror and walk downstairs.

Downstairs, Meri sits on the couch watching TV for a long time. Like he said... I close the door behind me so he looks up. He turns to me. His eyes scan my body slowly. Look people, this is uncomfortable. Could there be something wrong with the dress? Is he too old? Is he dirty? I don't know, I don't understand it at all. Maybe I shouldn't go to that gala with Axel after all.

"Wow Sage. You look great" Meri stammers. A small relief falls on my shoulders. "Walk a bit," he says. As he asked, I walk to him and back.

"And since when can you walk in heels?" Meri asks, laughing. I feel my cheeks turn slightly pink. I pull up the skirt of the dress a little and my black all stars appear. "But of course" Meri continues to laugh as he facepalms himself.

One minute before seven. Axel will pick me up shortly. It's already a minute to seven. A whole minute, not half. He could be here soon. Can't I just rewind time so I don't stress him out so much?

I pace around the living room. "What if they don't like me?" I mumble. "What if I don't look good?" I continue. "What if my teeth aren't white enough?" I say. At that moment, Meri jumps off the couch, sighing.

"Seriously Sage? That your teeth are not white enough? I already found your pacing annoying, but this beats everything. You're super handsome now, take it from me. Axel agrees with me on that anyway." Meri rattles as he pulls me into the hallway.

"Maybe I shouldn't go after all," I mumble. "You just go," Meri answers my unasked question. "It might be smarter not to go," I tell myself. "It might be smarter to keep your mouth shut and leave," Meri startles me from my thoughts.

Exactly at that moment the doorbell also rings. Meri opens the door. "Hey Axel, here she is, have a nice evening. Bye Sage" and with that said Meri pushes me into Axel's arms and slams the door. Subtle Meri. Very subtle.

"Hey," Axel smiles at me. He grabs my left hand. "You look beautiful tonight," he smiles at me and presses his lips briefly to mine. I wish that kiss could have lasted longer. "You don't look bad either," I smile back. He's wearing a whole suit. He is wearing a blue tie. But that's a good thing otherwise I would have walked straight back inside.

"Shall we go then?" Axel asks. I smile and nod at him. I hook my arms in his and walk with him to his car. He holds the door open for me for a moment. I get in and he closes the door for me again. Gentleman here. And completely mine.

Axel also gets in and starts driving. Off to a gala. As long as this goes well. Me + neat = impossible.

Hey, I got a mathematical equation right for the first time?
