Pov Meri

Just before we walk into the director's office, Bertha, slightly nervous, grabs my hand tightly.

I smile over my shoulder at Der. She smiles back softly. She leans forward a little to press a kiss on my cheek unnoticed.

"Enough bullshit for today. I called your parents. Meri, your mother was not there with you, so your uncle will come soon," he explains.

I nod and walk forward to the office chairs. Bertha nervously walks behind me and sits on the other chair.

Sage had sat on my lap...

Wait what?

The director comes and sits in front of us with his grumpy storm cloud.

"You must also understand that I cannot let this go without consequences," he growls.

I raise my eyebrows and roll my eyes. Bertha taps her foot and looks around her.

There's some knocking on the door. My uncle and Bertha's mother rush in. My uncle is cheerful as always and that grumpy mother also has a freaking storm cloud tattooed on her face...

"What did he do?" my uncle asks as he sits down.

"Meri and Bertha were caught together without their shirts in the broom closet," the director thunders grumpily.

"Haha, nice job Meri," Uncle Tom laughs and gives me a high five.

Ha, that wouldn't have been our mom's reaction.

Good thing it's gone now.

I chuckle softly.

"What's so funny, Meri," says the director and looks at me murderously.

We haven't closed anything...

"I understand, unlike some..." Bertha's mother begins and also shoots a murderous look at me and my uncle.

"How serious this situation is. Wei knows what could have happened?" Bertha's mother continues.

Ikuh!

Most people probably do...

"That's why I came up with an appropriate punishment. Meri, you've been in trouble a lot. This is number so many again. I'm going to suspend you now. Bertha, you never got into trouble. You stay two weeks after," he says.

Oh how I want to slap that grin off his face.

"I completely understand that, sir. They have to learn from their actions," says Bertha, her mother, who looks at me with a triumphant smile.

Yes, Bertha will be fine. Our mom is going to kill me.

"It'll be fine Meri. I'll be happy with Anna," my uncle says when he sees my head.

I sigh in relief and sink back.

The director and Bertha's mother look at him in surprise.

"But if that's all, Meri and I will just go home. Since he is apparently no longer welcome here...," my uncle says to get through the awkward situation.

He stands up and looks at me hopefully. I follow his example. Together we walk out the door without saying another word.

As soon as the door closes, my uncle bursts into laughter. I look at him strangely and his smile eventually makes me laugh too. We walk to the car laughing and drive home.

Vague huh?

I walk upstairs to my room. I plop down on my bed and put my hands behind my head. I really don't know what to do. Today is Wednesday. That means it's Sage's and my movie night.

Only with that argument I don't know if it's a good idea. I stand up again and walk towards my window.

I look at Sage's room as she gets up from her desk and wants to walk towards the bathroom. On the way there, she catches my eye. I continue to look stubborn. Sage also walks to her window and looks back.

We stand like that for a while, staring at each other. I grab my phone and click send to Sage:

Movie night?

I get a response back immediately.

It's just tradition.

I look out the window again and Sage gestures for me to come.

A slight smile begins to form on my face. Even though we still argue.

I open my window and climb the tree. I know exactly which branches I can stand on. I'll be at Sage in just a few seconds. She opens the window for me and I fly inside.

I look at Sage and she looks back at me.

"Hey," I say to break the silence.

"You just say hey after such an argument?!" she shouts.

Women always do too. What do they want now??

"That was my plan so far," I stammer and awkwardly scratch the back of my neck.

Sage rolls her eyes and sits down on the bed. Her head rests in her hands and a soft sob sounds through the room. I quickly crouch down in front of Sage. I tell her when she cries.

I try to grab her hands, but she pulls them back roughly.

"Why were you so mean?" she sobs.

Dylan is the biggest dick in the world. He's in the drug trade. He's in the mafia. Should I continue?

"Don't know. I think love is blind," I say. She looks up questioningly.

"Bertha," I answer.

She rolls her eyes again and sighs deeply.

She wanted me to tell her then?
