Two weeks. I had two weeks left till Christmas, and although it consumed my mind every waking second, I still had no idea what to buy Dom.
It has been almost a month since Dom was sworn in as President, with Tank officially becoming V.P the following week.
Since then I felt like I'd barely seen either of them. They were both so caught up in learning their new duties and ensuring the transition happened smoothly, that I'd resorted to buying groceries and cooking dinner every night for my man, just to ensure we'd get an hour or so to ourselves.
I'd started back at the tattoo shop the Monday after the celebrations had finally died down, and to say Pencil was grateful for the help was an understatement. Between the two of us we'd spent the past five weeks catching up on his clientele, and when word got out we'd re-opened, with a female artist on staff, the new bookings just kept coming.
My starting pay rate was almost double what I'd been making at Black Soul, and the shop was still turning over record profits according to Dom and Pencil. It felt good to have a purpose again.
"Pencil, Lex, can you guys come out here for a sec?" Came Jessica's voice from reception. We'd become close, and she'd decided not to go home to Australia, instead she'd taken a job as our shop receptionist, and was living st the clubhouse full time. It suited me greatly, having another female around my age helping to balance out the overwhelming testosterone at the club.
I got up from where I'd been transferring the design for my last customer of the day.
"What's up?" I asked as Pencil appeared from his room too.
"Your guys last appointment, the brother sister duo? Yeh they just canceled, something about a family emergency. So you'll are done for the day.
"Great, just great" I said. I knew Dom was working late tonight, away with Tank on business. He'd already warned me jot to bother cooking tonight.
"Well..." Pencil started before disappearing back into his room for a minute before reappearing with a piece of paper in hand.
"If you wanna stick around, we can finally get that property tattoo of yours inked. Suprise the old man when he gets back tonight."
He held the paper out towards me, and I stepped forward and grabbed it. It was perfect. 'Property of Reaper' was printed boldly above the club symbol which was encased inside a red heart just like I'd asked. I wanted it to look like an old school tattoo rather than a branding.
I was overly aware of how close Pencil was to my boobs as he placed the transfer onto my skin, but I trusted him. In fact I trusted all the men of the club. It was like having an army of older brothers. I was close with them, but not once did anyone try to cross the line with me, a fact I was more than thankful for, more for their sakes than mine. Dom was a mad man when he wanted to be, that I was sure of.
"Won't take long" he said, dipping the tip of his machine into the ink.
"Great!" I said sarcastically. "That'll free me up to make my billionth trip into the city to try and find that bloody President of yours a Christmas gift."
I sighed and he chuckled. "I don't envy ya, that's for sure."
"Right? What the fuck do you buy the man that has everything?" I said exasperated.
"Mate, I can't remember a single year in my club life where we even celebrated the damn holiday. If I had to guess I'd say nobody bothered since Catherine died. I'm sure whatever you get him he'll love it more than anything in the fucking world, because it came from you."
His words were sweet, but I couldn't help rolling my eyes. How cliché.
As Pencil was finishing up on the shading, I called out to Jessica.
"Hey Jess, can you grab my phone and flick P a message. Tell him I'm ready to be picked up."
"Yeh babe" she called out in response.
Not long after, I heard the familiar sound of the truck pulling up outside.
"Catch you tomorrow guys, and thanks for the ink Pencil, it's perfect" I said before gathering my stuff and heading out to my waiting ride.
"Home?" P asked as I climbed into the passenger seat.
"Nope, you're in for a treat today P, we're off to the mall."
He groaned and I laughed.
"Trust me, I don't want to be there anymore than you do, but I'm running out of time."
P chuckled. He knew my struggle, and had been rather unhelpful with any help or advice.
"How many times do I have to tell ya. Wrap your naked ass in a giant red bow. Boom. Present sorted."
I rolled my eyes. "Not happening."
Wandering through the mall I felt totally lost, just like all the other times I'd been. I walked through store after store, picking things up, and putting them down again, never buying a thing. P followed me dutifully every step, gathering unwanted stares and pointed fingers in our direction. He may not have his cut yet, but his presence was still dominating.
We'd been there for over an hour and I was still no closer to finding anything close to suitable. I was just about to give up when all of a sudden a hot flush hit me. My body began to feel light and my vision slowly narrowed.
"P..." I said shakily, and he looked at me concerned.
"What's up Lex, your pale as shit. You feeling ok?"
I went to talk but my whole body felt faint, and as my vision narrowed to pinholes, I felt P's arm wrap around me, taking my weight.
"Come on Lex, let's get you to Doc, get you checked out" I heard him say as I lost consciousness.
I came too just as we pulled back into the clubhouse.
"Hey... your back" P said softly with a concerned look of his face.
"I'm fine honestly. That'll teach me for skipping lunch today."
"Still... I'm taking you to Doc anyway. Reaper would kill me if I didn't."
I knew there was no point in arguing so I followed him inside and knocked on the door of Doc's office.
"Evening Alexis, what can I do for ya?" he asked as he swung the door open.
"Hey Doc. I kinda...uh...passed out at the mall this arvo. I feel fine now though, P just insisted I come see you."
"Alright, we'll just run a few tests and if everything's normal you'll be good to go."
I sighed and sat myself down on the bed, leaning back and closing my eyes.
