Pulling my bike into the driveway of the quaint little cottage, it felt like I'd done this a million times.

This place felt familiar, felt right.

It felt like home.

But something felt wrong, I felt... 'off'.

Taking off my helmet and leaning my bike onto its kickstand, I all but ran to the front door, unable to keep myself from what I hoped was waiting for me within.

Making my inside, I heard my own voice sound of its own accord. I wasn't in control of myself.

"Baby, I'm home!"

And just like that, the woman that was home to me appeared from a doorway to my left.

"Welcome home babe. We missed you."

She smiled, but it didn't meet her eyes.

Something was definitely not right.

"Where's my baby girl?" I heard myself ask.

"She upstairs having a nap. I'll go get her."

She stopped before me, placing her hands on my chest, and a small kiss on my lips.

It felt wrong. She was touching me but I felt nothing. There was no warmth where her hands lay on my chest. No electricity when she placed her lips against mine.

My body ached to feel those things. To feel anything.

As I reached up to hold her face she pulled away from me, turning and making her way up the small staircase in the corner of the room.

I stood, rooted to the spot, watching her leave me with a weight in my heart so heavy, I felt a lone tear escape my eye.

When my feet would allow me to move finally, I bolted for the staircase, taking the steps two at a time in a desperate bid to lay eyes on my soulmate again.

As my feet landed on the top floor, a blood-curdling scream rang out from behind the door directly infront of me.

Throwing it open, I watched on in shock as Alexis stood in the corner of the room, holding a tiny bundle on her arms.

All of a sudden, the ground started to move beneath us. I tried to cross the room towards them, but a black void opened up, separating us.

I didn't understand what the fuck was happening, I just knew I needed to get to them. To save them.

The void began to spread, and in an instant I felt myself begin to fall, watching in horror as the darkness consumed my woman and daughter too.

We all fell. Fell for what felt like eternity. I couldn't reach them. Couldn't do anything to stop this madness. I heard screaming but I couldn't tell who it was coming from.

The darkness began to fade to nothing, although the screams remained.

Then a bright light shone directly into my face, blinding me even through closed eyes.

I felt hands grab my arms, arms that I hadn't realized had been flailing around wildly. Forcefully, they held them to my sides, and I started to make out hushed voices, although I couldn't make out what they were saying over the screaming.

Then the realization hit me. The screaming was me.

I forced myself to stop, finally managing some sort of control over my own body.

The bright light disappeared, and I attempted to open my eyes. The light of my surroundings was still harsh, but after a few tries I managed to get them open enough to know that whatever just happened had been some sort of fucked up, sadistic nightmare.
