Tanjiro sat eerily quiet on his estate porch pondering about his life while his child, Tatsuki, napped silently on his lap. While the events of his wife's passing had impacted Tanjiro dearly, it had an even exponential effect on Tatsuki with his mother now gone.

It had been a weird three months for Tatsuki to see a person ripped out of his life so forcefully. As any other 7-year-old, the thought of someone in his family dying had never crossed his mind.

It did now.

Tanjiro stared up at the silent night sky with the moon shining bright.

He knows he changed. He felt like a piece of him had been ripped out.

His crow landed beside him informing him that he had been given a mission to carry out tonight. He sighed while getting up, trying not to wake up his son. Tanjiro walked over to Tatsuki's bed, placed him in it, and got ready for his mission.

He slid his green and black checkered haori onto his shoulders while gripping his katana with a little more force than necessary. In the corner of his eye, he spotted Nezuko's box where she was sleeping peacefully. Usually, he would just leave her at the house not to bother her since Tanjiro knew she could protect herself. But he felt like changing that just for today.

"It's been a while since I took you, right Nezuko? Why don't you come with me today?" He tried to force a smile even though she couldn't see him through the wooden box.

He had no idea who he was smiling for and quickly dropped it realizing how stupid he looked. He grabbed the straps and slid the box onto his back. He walked out of his home and closed the gate behind him as his feet crunched against the stone path.

. . .

Hours later of running, Tanjiro approaches the mission site and can already smell the potent stench of a demon.

It smells strong. Maybe an upper moon? Did Muzan already replace one of them? Sheesh he's quick.

He keeps running into the dense forest and stops abruptly when the scent becomes overwhelming. He looks around for the demon but sees nothing except trees.

"You can stop hiding, you pathetic demon! Show your face!!"

Still, nothing. No movement behind the tree line.

Argh, so annoying...I have to do everything myself.

He walks toward the direction where the smell is strongest, but as he gets closer to what he thinks is the source, the focal point shifts behind him. He whips his neck around, sensing the change.

The hell? Why did the scent change location? No way the demon moved faster than I could react.

He walks in the opposite direction, but once again, the scent shifts—this time to his left. Now, he's getting confused.
