As the day progressed later than usual, everyone was preparing to tackle their respective duties. The atmosphere was contemplative and casual as they moved about.
Suddenly, a book tumbled from a shelf, drawing everyone's attention as Shu Wang bent to retrieve it. With a sharp "Ow!" he straightened, wincing visibly.
Hearing the commotion from the back room where she was fetching the incenses she’d prepared for the guys, Jai Mei hurried over, concern etching her features.
"Wang, are you okay? What happened?" she asked, rushing to his side.
Rubbing his head ruefully, Shu Wang replied with a pout, "Wife, I hit my head," drawing a tender look from Jai Mei.
“Oh my goodness, did you hit it hard? Do you have a lump? Let me see,” she fretted, setting down the incense with immense care. She reached up, her fingers gently probing his scalp for any sign of injury.
Seizing the moment for a bit of playful affection, Shu Wang wrapped his arms around her waist, drawing her closer.
His eyes twinkled with mischief as he glanced at the other husbands and silently mouthed, "Watch this."
He then melodramatically rested his head against her shoulder, moaning,
"Owwieee, wife."
A pang of concern flashed through Jai Mei as she embraced him, her hands soothingly rubbing his back.
"Oh, Shu Wang, it's okay," she cooed, not detecting any serious injury. "I don’t feel a lump; you should be fine."
“But it really hurts, are you sure?” Shu Wang continued, burying his face into her neck for effect.
Jai Mei’s hand moved with a comforting rhythm over his scalp and down his back, reassuring him with gentle touches and soft words.
"Yes, it’s okay, I’m sorry it hurt you," she murmured, rocking him slightly.
From across the room, the other husbands exchanged incredulous glances at Shu Wang’s antics.
He caught their looks, grinned, and winked conspiratorially before turning his full attention back to Jai Mei, who was lavishing him with care.
This playful interlude not only lightened the mood but also subtly reaffirmed the deepening bond between Jai Mei and Shu Wang, even as it left the others amused and a bit bewildered by his theatrical display.
Liu Feng rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a smirk at the scene unfolding before him.
Hao Zhang, meanwhile, covered his mouth to hide his grin.
Chun Wei, trying not to laugh outright, silently chuckled at the playful antics.
Unexpectedly, Jai Mei took her lightheartedness a step further.
She gently moved Shu Wang aside, slipped off her house shoe, and playfully tapped the bookshelf with it.
"Bad bookshelf," she scolded in mock seriousness. "Don't hit Wang." The others watched in disbelief as she continued, "No violence in this family."
The room was filled with muffled laughter, but the humor escalated when Chun Wei, caught off guard by his own amusement, stepped back and accidentally struck his elbow against the dining room table, eliciting a yelp, "Ow." from him as he performed a spontaneous dance from the tingling pain.
Without missing a beat, Jai Mei approached with her house shoe in hand and gave the table a light whack.
"Ah, what's going on today?" she exclaimed. "Bad table. Don't hurt Chun Wei. No violence!"
She then turned her attention to Chun Wei's elbow, inspecting it carefully. "You don’t have a splinter, do you? It must feel weird, but it'll pass. You just hit your funny bone, right?"
