The staff eyed me accusingly as i walked through the already assembled crew to meet the producer Kang Taemin.
he is 50 something and looks like the friendly uncle who lives in a forest for fun. I bowed to greet him hoping he doesn't care about me being 5 min late.
"ms. song" he greeted me cheerfully. "don't worry about them" he whispered pointing to the staff.
"thanks" i muttered and joined the other directors. that day's episode was written by the previous director so the only thing i had to do was learn and mingle. i only did one of them.
I introduced myself to the crew like a shy bride.
they wanted to ask a lot of questions but i escaped to my place before they could. the asst. creative director kept trying to talk to me during the prep but i just nodded refusing to engage in any conversation.
after the scripts and cue cards were organized i asked the asst. to help me with the briefing. my voice came out frail, like a scared child. honestly, I hadn't realized how bad my anxiety had got while I was on the 2 month break.
we made our way to the artist's waiting room, the awkwardness in the air enough to choke someone. i opened the gate at the same time as someone inside and collided with him, my papers flying like birds freed from their cages. I was really surprised and stumbled back but he caught my forearm and balanced me.
that's when i looked at him for the first time. his eyes were big and curious and his expressions were gentle. "i am sorry" we said at the same time.
joshua laughed at the coincidence. his eyes turning into beautiful crescents. it made my heart flutter. but my sanity kicked in after a few seconds and i perched down to gather the papers. he followed me down helping me pick up the papers.
"thankyou very much" I smiled grateful for his help. a part of me was mad at asst. seo for not helping and watching the drama but i decide to keep it for another time.
"you're welcome"he reflected my smile and moved aside letting me in.
i had no idea we had an audience inside who was watching and judging us. seungkwan was side-eyeing me as if i betrayed him but i ignored it.
"Hi I am the new creative director for going seventeen, song arin. nice to meet you." i bowed formally. in response they cheered and clapped like middle schoolers.
they greeted me in different ways. some saying hello, some trying to strike a conversation and a few just smiling at me. I didn't engage in any small talk. not wanting to say anything more than necessary.
"should we start the briefing?" i asked.
"wait a minute." jeonghan raised his hand jumping slightly with excitement.
"yes?""why were you so polite to joshua and rude to me?" he asked as if he was asking me something i could look into an encyclopedia and answer.
"what do you mean?" seungcheol asked seriously, which honestly scared me.
"180 degrees?" jeonghan pointed at me with his palm to remind me.
at that instant i wanted to hide somewhere and never come back to work. the others looked curiously between jeonghan and me. i took a deep breath and decided to be honest.
"I am always polite to artists, i just didn't know you were one at the time." i replied confidently.
"you mean you are only polite to artists?" jeonghan gasped as if he realized the answer to a riddle.
"yes" i said unabashed. "should we continue with the briefing?"
:o Cookie: to joshua his first meeting with arin felt like a movie. her eyes were cast down as she stumbled back. he caught her arm but his eyes never left her face.
