"wh-what did you just say?" i asked my eyes turning round as i searched his eyes for reassurance.
"i said.." jeonghan smiled softly, his voice gentle but laced with a hint of playfulness. "will you be my girlfriend?"
"again?" he added a heartbeat later.
have you ever felt that feeling, when you can hear birds chirping except they are not really chirping, when the moon appears to be as big as the sky and the river seems a little more tranquil, it's dark waters glittering silver as if it's alive. the world seems to slow down and a gentle gush of wind caresses my skin for the tiniest sliver of time.
It's the kind of happiness that sneaks up on you like a ninja. One minute, you're just casually walking by the river, and the next, you're practically glowing with joy, wondering if your heart's about to go full confetti cannon and scatter itself all over the world.
what? you haven't felt it?
maybe try falling in love then dating then getting ghosted then breaking up then dating someone else then breaking up again then meeting him again when you are at your worst and then fucking up and confessing only to be told that it's not the right time. then going about fixing your life for an year until suddenly you are at the riverside with the love of your life asking you to be his girlfriend again.
it's a complicated method .... but boy does it work!
"YES! A HUNDRED TIMES YES!" i threw my arms around his neck, jeonghan stumbling a few steps back as he chuckled. i hugged him for longer than i intended because i was sure i was grinning like a fool. i let go of him to see his face, and it's the widest i had seen him smile in ages.
"that was a bit .. much" i said tucking my hair behind my ear shyly. i didn't really feel shy, just embarrassed of how excited i was and how terrible i was at hiding it.
"not much at all." he teased, the innocent smile turning into a playful smirk. "but maybe this would be a bit too much."
before i could wonder what he meant he leaned in, and it felt as if the universe had wrapped itself in a pink and sparkly bow and said, "here's everything you ever wanted!"
i didn't know when he crossed the distance, but then his lips touched mine and everything just ... vanished. it felt warm and tender. something so lovely that even it's fleeting nature couldn't change it's importance. the gentle curve of his lips, the electricity tingling wherever his touch landed. the heartbeat beneath my fingertips. it was all that mattered.
it was as if we were new again. the dust of regrets and mistakes washed away by our love. what used to be like a flood now channeled in the right way, like a beautiful river.. and my soul felt like it was blossoming.
now it was just me .. and him ... under the stars ... kissing and saying more with touch than could be ever said with words.
it was as if he was saying. 'i am here. and this time, i will stay.'
