"that's all about me. your turn to talk."
"i don't have much" i said and hara surely didn't believe me. no drama in my life? impossible.
but my definition of drama has changed significantly. anything less than the world literally imploding is a minor inconvenience.
"how is jeonghan?" hara asked casually, taking a sip of her coffee. and embarrassingly, i blushed because apparently, my face has a built in blushing mechanism just for him.
"he's fine" i mumbled, hiding my face behind the mug like a shield.
hara raised a brow knowingly. "how enlightening!" she said, her voice laced with sarcasm. "jeonghan is fine. who would've thought?"
i rolled my eyes, i can almost read her mind. "you want the juicy details don't you?"
she smirked and leaned forward. "now you are speaking my language."
"Well," I drawled dramatically, "it's nice... less sparkly but more durable."
"that's one way to describe a relationship." she said. "less sparkly but durable, sounds like you are selling a wallet."
i couldn't help but chuckle at her analogy. this is one damn precious wallet.
"well, things can't be the same once you break up. and we both changed in those years. but it's much better. more honest. and less drama."
it would be a lie to say that we are perfect. hell, we might not even be close yet. but we feel perfect. and that's something isn't it?
sometimes we still argue. like that time when i saw jeonghan with a girl and stirred up a whole storm but it turned out to be soobin. again. in a new style.
i found it hilarious. jeonghan? not so much.
"less drama?" hara dramatically put a hand over her heart and sighed. "my life feels boring without your 3 am calls about problems that could be fixed with just one honest conversation."
did she have to remind me?
sure the years worth of drama wouldn't have happened if i had just been honest from the beginning. but misunderstandings are what makes a strong relationship. (disclaimer - this statement may or may not be entirely untrue.)
"well things still happen. i just don't tell you everything."
"oh" hara narrowed her gaze playfully. "what does he say? 'stop loving hara more than me?' "
i chuckled at her mimicry of jeonghan.
"something like that. when we were still figuring things out, he told me he wants us to solve our problems on our own. and i understand where he's coming from. no one would want their girlfriend's best friend to know about every petty argument or.." i cleared my throat looking down at my coffee. "certain experiments that he likes to do."
hara's eyes widened and a mischievous grin spreads across her face. "that's unfair!" she said grinning like a cheshire cat. "you used to tell me all the spicy details earlier. what's special about these .. experiments huh?"
i flashed a smug grin. "you will never guess"
hara kept digging for details and i kept playing around with words, chaos is so fun when it's in control.
"anyway" i said wiping an exaggerated tear from my eye. "you know soojin is in love? she grew up too quick"
hara gasped. "no way! but she deserves it. and i must add she is just 2 years younger than you."
i chuckled menacingly. "that's practically a generation gap. but she just mannerlessly yells my name these days."
"sure, as if you didn't tell her to do that yourself" hara teased.
damn, busted. she knows me too well.
"and what about the others, are you still friends with seungkwan?"
"of course" i said with a soft smile.
seungkwan and i went back to being best friends as if nothing happened. he is still a royal pain in the ass. always teasing and putting me in awkward situations. but i love him too much to do anything other than curse him out for it.
"we meet quite often." i added. "in fact because of jeonghan, i get along with most of them now. seungcheol checks up on me from time to time as well."
hara raised an eyebrow at the mention of his name. "does he? i bet he is working overtime to make up for everything."
i scoffed. "yes. that's definitely why he bought me a dior bag for my birthday."
"right, what better way to make up for being a jerk than to flash your money." hara said dryly.
"what about joshua?" she asked, her voice softer.
i paused at his name, glancing away for a second. joshua ... "we are okay, i guess. we are friends, at least that's what we call it. but mostly it's just random hellos and how are yous"
"well that's fine." hara said gently, "not every thing can go back to how it was."
"yeah it can't." i said, the sadness in my voice more apparent than i would like. "but i am so happy to have at least a fraction of what we used to have back. and my relationship with jeonghan is better than ever. that's more than enough"
hara smiled leaning back in her chair. "my baby girl is finally in her happy era."
"don't jinx it" i scolded her but couldn't help but smile back as a feeling of contentment settled over me.
nothing's really perfect but perhaps perfect isn't always the best. sometimes the best is waiting for weeks to meet him, or realizing how messed up our past is but still not giving up on the future.
and maybe the best person is someone who is willing to stick around, long after the flowers and the butterflies are gone, knowing that no matter how much ugliness surrounds us. when we face each other, the world is still beautiful.
A/N:
WHO GAVE HIM PERMISSION TO BE SO BEAUTIFUL???
anyway, next chapter has a mystery character, any guesses?
hint: someone connected to arin.
thinking of writing something spicy for the last 'last' chapter of this book. 👀
