Taylor's POV
I had no idea how to get Harper out of the house while she was crying, seeing her so panicked about getting "found" was breaking my heart, no 3 year old should feel that way at all. I picked her up and held her close to me but she just wouldn't calm down. I took her out to the car and handed her both of her blankies. "Biwy." She mumbled, both blankies covering her face.
"Billy?" I asked her gently and she nodded looking up and crying.
"Billy bear is right here in keeping him safe until we're in the car okay?" I told her, holding up the ratty teddy bear that she so very much loved. As far as we know that bear has been with her since birth and was her main source of comfort. She nodded a little and covered her face again when we walked out of the apartment doors and many men with cameras began taking pictures.
I felt her tiny little body jolt as her breaths quickened and became more difficult. I placed my hand on the back of her head, a way of assuring her that no one was taking her from me and that I had her. I also made sure to continue to talk to her the whole time. As long as she can hear me I am not going anywhere in her mind.
"We're in the car now. I'm going to put you down in your seat but you're okay I'm still here." I told her but she started crying worse and clinging on tighter. Once I managed to put her down I passed Billy bear to her and then watched as she nuzzled her face into her blankets. I then reached over and put on the mini tv that is attached to the back of the headrest on my seat.
She finally calmed just as we reached the restaurant but of course the panic set back in when she noticed more flashing lights. I made my way to her car door and opened it up. "Deep breath baby girl I'm right here." I told her, placing her on my hip. I used my hand to cover her eyes while she covered her ears and Travis grabbed her things from the back.
"Do you want me to take her, Tay?" Travis asked and I looked down at her.
"Baby I'm gonna give you to daddy." I told her as I passed her over to Travis. I smiled and grabbed my purse and phone then took her blankets from Travis and followed him inside. If I was a toddler scared of paparazzi I would feel better with Travis anyway so I didn't even give her an option.
On the way in I noticed a little girl and her mom asking if I could get a picture with her so being the softie I am I made my way over for a picture. I talked to the little girl for a couple minutes but when I looked over at Travis to get him to come over I noticed harper looking very mad. "She's jealous." He mouthed before coming over and passing her to me.
"Travis, look! She's wearing a Chiefs jersey." I told him, pointing to the little girl's jersey while hugging harper. Harper just continued to whine and beg for my attention until we walked away and went inside the restaurant.
"Aww someone's a little bit jealous." I told Harper, ticking her sides before giving her a kiss on the forehead. She immediately folded her arms and looked at me with a big pout. "I'm not replacing you, I was just saying hi." I told her.
She nodded a little before wrapping her arms around my neck and laying her head down on my shoulder. We all got seated and I managed to pry her away from me to sit on her own at the side of me. She rolled her eyes a little. "Don't sass me at age 3!" I warned and she laughed.
At least I was keeping her cheery instead of nervous and worried. While I ordered our food Travis decided to start trying to play peek a boo with the menu. "Travis she's 3 she's not a baby, it doesn't work." I told him but I was silenced when I heard her little giggles every time he popped out from behind the menu. I rolled my eyes a little and turned to the waitress. "Il take a vodka Diet Coke please."
The lady laughed a little before waking away, later coming back with some drinks. I was allowed to get drunk because I don't have to drive whereas Travis has to stay sober. All that it means is that Travis will be Harper's favorite for the night but oh well I need it after the past two days. It's a shame though because Harper distances herself a lot even if I only have one drink. The fact that my 3 year old has such little trust in me breaks my heart.
I just relaxed and drank my drink noticing harper slowly moving fitter from me until she was on the same side of the booth as Travis. I expected it and wasn't hurt at all. It's crazy to understand the trauma that it comes from and her initial response to alcohol.
By the time that the food had arrived harper was cuddled up to Travis' side and staring into space. "Honey can you try to eat some of your food for me please." I told her and she looked over, snapping back to reality.
She looked at me then her food then back at me. "Baby what were you thinking about? If it's bothering you then you can tell me."
I watched as her eyes narrowed a little. She began to slide underneath the table and made her way back over to me. She climbed into my lap before reaching over to bring her plate closer also. This completely took me by surprise especially since I had already had a couple of drinks by then.
"What's wrong?" I asked her and she just stayed silent, laying her head down on me while eating a chicken tender. I finished all my food and when I noticed that only one chicken tender had been eaten from Harper's plate I looked down to see her fast asleep on me.
Travis laughed a little and stole one of the chicken tenders off of her plate before going to pay. "Harper wake up honey, you need to eat a little bit more for me then you can sleep." I told her as I gently rubbed her back and sat her up more.
I managed to coax her into eating a little bit more but she was absolutely shattered. All she wanted was to cuddle and just sleep so I wasn't going to hold her back from that, not after how the previous night had been.
We spent the rest of the night cuddling and giving Harper all the attention she needed to ensure she felt safe and comfortable. Before I could even check the time we were all fast asleep, definitely a lot earlier than we usually go to sleep at.
