Taylor's POV
We all got back in the car after dinner which happened to be very successful. I opted to drive because it seemed to have gone a lot smoother when I was driving and it's clear that when Harper knows I'm available and can be with her she finds every reason to get me there. When I drive she knows I can't just go to her so she doesn't use ridiculous excuses.
Once I had set off driving the whining started however Travis is a lot less patient now than I am. Since we had been locked in such a small car all day it was clear that everyone's patience was running thin. All that harper wanted was to cuddle and have a bottle and just relax whereas me and Travis wanted to get there as soon as possible.
We had given her a bottle and a pacifier as we had set off, however she was now protesting to have someone else hold it or someone hold her while she had it. She began to throw the bottle on the floor of the car, knowing that someone would have to pick it up for her. Once she started doing it continuously Travis completely lost it. "Harper, stop being so difficult! We're all tired and we're trying our best and I know you can't have what you want right now but we can't help you I'm sorry! Stop this behavior and act your age you're not a baby you're 3! You know not to throw by now."
The whole car went silent but as Travis let out a huge sigh Harper burst into tears and began sobbing. I looked over to Travis who was now undoing his seatbelt and moving the blanket off himself. "Pull over and swap with me because I'm gonna lose it and I'm just making it worse." He told me.
I did as he said however I climbed straight into the back and picked up the bottle, placing the end in harpers mouth and holding it for her. She finally calmed a little and I wiped her little tears away. I gently rushed rubbed my hand over her hairline repeatedly and watched as she started to fall asleep. "How about I sleep here right by you so you know I'm here?" I asked her. She nodded and reached an arm out.
"Words please." I told her and she huffed a little.
"Hold my hand. Pwease." She murmured as she tried to find my hand. She tried to sit up a little and it was then that I realized the poor child could barely move in her seat. I loosened them a little bit and kissed her forehead before putting on a movie on the tv screen. I made sure to hold her hand for as long as she needed me to while also conversing with Travis to keep him going and awake.
"Trav can we just stop off at a hotel tonight, I'm tired, you're tired and Harper is extremely tired. We should only have arrived at 11 if we had no stops but we stopped a lot and we won't get there until like 2 or 3 am. Besides, Harper's poor legs can barely move; she needs to stretch them." I begged just needing more than just an hour out of the car.
Travis quickly stopped to check for hotels nearby and thankfully complied, making his way there. Eventually we got out and Harper finally stretched her legs a little also. It's not like she hadn't been out of the seat all day but her legs had been hurting and I could tell because she was making me carry her any time we stopped for a bathroom break.
"Just get a one bed room she can go in with us."I told him. Travis ran in to get us a room while I walked around the car park with harper for a little bit, allowing her to lose the last bit of energy she has and to get her legs less cramped up. We then collected all the items she wanted for the night before wandering inside where Travis was waiting with our room key.
Of course with our luck we were at the top floor and harpers fear of elevators meant that we had to climb up many many sets of stairs. Eventually we made it inside and finally we could lay down properly. I felt every inch of my body ache as I lay there flat for the first time in what felt like forever.
I didn't really manage to stay there too long as harper had suddenly realised she was in a new place that she didn't know and she had immediately crawled on top of me crying and hugging onto me. While supporting under her butt and her back I slowly sat up and began to walk around the hotel room bouncing her a little. I noticed that whenever she got upset the more she was babied the better as she would relax sooner and just fall asleep.
Thankfully the method worked and she fell asleep on my shoulder meaning I could finally sleep. I kept her close to my front as I lay on my side, slowing Travis to cuddle up behind me and gently play with my hair, immediately causing the whole of my body to relax and finally start to fall asleep. "Thank you for yelling at her, Travis. She needs that and she needs to grow up, you're right." I told him.
He nodded a little, clearly almost asleep so I sighed and just closed my eyes allowing sleep
To take over. Deep down I know the only way that harper relaxes is from being babied by one of us but is that her just wanting attention? I didn't want to make her feel like we're drifting and don't care if I start changing how I treat her.Part of me likes that she accepts how I treat her, it's kind of like I get to give her everything she missed out on. If it was making Travis upset it's clearly important and needs discussing. I made a mental note to speak to him about it. I didn't want to upset either of them but it was starting to feel like harper was just crying at any chance given so she can be babied and get attention.
