Taylor's POV
It made me jump when I looked up and saw her in the doorway in the dark. My natural instinct would be to pick her up and just put her in the middle, however this time I got up in silence, grabbed her hand and walked her back to her own room. I tucked her back in again and left in silence.
She lasted another hour alone before she was trying to climb in next to us. "Monsters! Monsters! Mama, monsters!" She sobbed, trying to climb up once again. I sat up and looked over at Travis, gently shaking his arm to wake him up. I felt awful because he has had a long day but this was a job for him.
"Harper wants daddy to de-monster her bedroom." I told him. He sighed and got up, following her to her room and showing her under the bed and in all her cupboards. I got up and watched and it was so cute to see. The way he handled it was adorable.
"Let's check in the closet. Yep! All safe. Okay now under the bed. Let's lie down on our tummies and look. See, no monsters. Your room is perfectly fine, little one. You're all safe so let's get you back into bed. Can you try really hard to stay in bed for me tonight, mommy is really tired and she won't tell you but I think she needs some sleep tonight and she'd like you to get a good night of sleep in your own big bed. Do it for mommy, yeah?" He told her. I could feel tears welling up in my eyes so I made my way back to my room before he saw me.
The next morning I woke up to a message that I couldn't wait to tell Travis about. I woke him up early just to tell him. "Travis! Trav! Wake up! Travis, they've got a dog available. Fully trained! Travis, they said they can bring it today!" I told him while shaking him awake. He immediately jumped up.
"Yes! Tell them yes!" He demanded. I nodded and replied before setting up a time. I made sure we had enough time to get Harper up and ready and also have a quick tidy around the house before she met her new dog. I just had to hope it would go okay with the cats.
I headed to Harper's room while Travis sorted out breakfast and started to tidy up downstairs. I first opened up the curtains before sitting down by the side of the bed and pulling the covers from over her face. I just hoped she hadn't suffocated overnight. As soon as I saw her take a breath I sighed in relief and gently ran my fingers through her hair.
"Baby, time to wake up. Oh hello there gorgeous girl!" I cooed, gently rubbing her cheek with my thumb. She looked over at me and smiled, reaching over for me. Shs was still in a bright red chiefs onesie instead of one of her usual animal themed ones and she looked so cute. I have no idea how she doesn't overheat at night though.
Her little hand reached over and grabbed onto me so I picked her up and let her lay her head down on my shoulder. Usually she takes a good while to wake up in the mornings. She takes her time to wake up and she enjoys her cuddles until then.
We went downstairs and Travis was putting all of our shoes into a box and picking everything up that was thrown around the house. Since having Harper and Ellie move in we just have laundry everywhere at the minute and normally I like to be quite tidy. With our busy schedules there's just not very much time in the day.
We had breakfast then by the time we were all dressed and ready we had a knock on the door. I answered and the dog was brought in. We were given all of the important information about Bella but once they left it was time to introduce Bella to Harper. "Harper, come here honey!" I yelled from the front door.
She toddled her way over and stopped half way in shock when she saw the dog that was probably even bigger than her. She looked up at me and giggled before walking over to the dog hesitantly. "Harper this is Bella, she's going to help you out. Say hi to her" I told her.
Harper waved and gently petted the dog. "Will I be allowed give her new name?" She asked me.
"Yeah I don't see why not. Why don't you name her after something you love!" Travis told her. We both knelt down on the floor and the dog lay down between us while Harper gently petted her.
"Snuggies!" Harper screeched excitedly.
"Absolutely not, you are not naming the dog after my..." I replied before being interrupted.
"Nuggie! DUCKY!" She squealed. I had to laugh at her excitement. She loves her duck onesie and she also loves chicken nuggets a lot. My heart wanted her to choose ducky, Travis said nuggie was cute. When she asked Ellie and Ellie chose nuggie she immediately chose the opposite and went for ducky instead.
She immediately headed off upstairs to find her duck onesie, struggling with each step that she had to climb up. I made a mental note to make sure to help her down the stairs on the way back but it was cute watching her make her way up alone with Bella... or Ducky following her closely behind. Hopefully this dog can help us out a lot now.
She came running over, onesie in hand begging for a pajama day and I just couldn't say no to her gorgeous little face with her puppy eyes. I quickly changed her and also got her a new pull up too. We decided since the problem with her dad that we would put her back in pull ups full time just for precaution. At the minute if she gets even the smallest bit scared she does end up having an accident and it's easier to go back a step and slowly potty train again than it is to deal with accidents all the time.
When she was done we had lunch which was an absolute nightmare. She claimed that after a bite of her chicken sandwich she was too full. I tried. To push her to eat half but she immediately started stressing out and saying that she can't and that she feels sick. Poor baby ends up in so much pain each time she eats. This really puts Bella... Ducky to the test because she hadn't really been around Harper in this state before. She also hasn't been in our house much so has no idea where she was going but she must have remembered Harper's room because she immediately ran up and came back with blankie and Billy bear.
"Wow harper! Say thank you to Ducky." I told her. She mumbled a thank you and climbed over into my lap, facing my plate. She reached over for my sandwich but wouldn't eat her own so I moved hers onto my plate and much to my surprise she ate it. I could hear her whining and noticed her holding her stomach so I told her not to force it too much and to just have an extra snack after her nap. She liked that deal and immediately cuddled up.
I rubbed her tummy for her while I ate my food and when I looked down she was already drifting off to sleep. "You're going to have nap time up in your bed today instead of down here with me. Don't worry though Ducky will go with you and stay there the whole time right next to you. It will all be okay and if you need mommy or daddy ducky will come get us okay?" I told her clearly.
She nodded slowly so I walked her upstairs and got her all cozy in bed. Ducky lay down by her and placed her head down on Harper's stomach with one paw also on Harper too. This immediately made her feel safer and she didn't put up a fight. She immediately fell asleep. I had to get a picture to show Travis before heading out. As much as I prefer cats, this dog idea doesn't seem too bad.
