"So what's our mission?"
"We're going to Mimban. Residents have reported mysterious things happening. Some say they have seen droids appearing in the swamp in the night," my Master explains.
"That sounds... ugh, I don't really don't feel like going to a swamp planet right now," I complain.
My Master looks at me. "Well, you don't have much of a choice."
I stop in my tracks, he turns around to see we I stopped just to see me standing with crossed arms, pouting.
"You're not a child, Lora." He shakes his head.
"Actually I am, I'm only 16," I point out as we get onto our gunship to take us to our cruiser. "Maybe it's just the trauma that makes me seem older?"
"Lora, don't joke about things like that," he scolds me.
I shrug. "Why not? Would you rather have me crying about it every second?"
"That's not what I'm saying. But if it could help, you know, maybe it could."
"When Satine died, did you want to cry about it all the time, no? No, you didn't, you said that yourself. You know that I don't want to either, I'm weak enough as it is."
My Master looks at me. "You're not weak, Lora, you know that."
"No, I'm not really physically weak, or I mean, after the whole destroyed nerves thing, I guess I am. But I was hencing to the whole 'breaking the rules' and mental weakness. You know?"
"Look, I need to tell you something. But it's classified, I'm not supposed to." He turns to me.
I cross my arms. "Okay?"
"I need you to not tell anyone, not even Anakin," he says, his voice more serious than what I have heard in a while.
"I won't," I promise.
"The Council has been talking about promoting padawans. We have never had less Jedi Knights. We need more. Your name is one of those being thrown around."
I suck in a sharp breath. "I.. um."
"I know it comes out of nowhere-"
"It does. I have only been a padawan for almost three years. That's not enough time," I exclaim.
"The reason for you being mentioned is because they know you can handle it. They trust you. If they thought you were weak, which you're not, they wouldn't say that." He places his hands on my shoulders. "I know you can do it." I don't say anything. "It would not be right now. But I wanted you to know. Because I know how you feel about surprises." How I feel about things changing without me having a say.
I nod a few times. "Alright. Thank you."
The doors to the gunship opens, signaling that our flight is over. We walk out and go to our fighters that are placed not far from where the gunship landed. I jump into my ship and press the button to close the cockpit glass over my head. I start the engines and fly after my master.
"How long is there to Mimban?" I ask my MAster over the comlink.
"A bit of a flight," he responds.
"Long enough for me to get some sleep?"
A bit of silence. "I mean, sure. I'll wake you before we exit hyperspace or if anything happens. Goodnight, dear."
"Goodnight," I giggle and turn off the comlink before relaxing against my seat and closing my eyes.
