Journey of the Last Demon and the Female Lieutenant

Chapter 2

(canteen)

Soldier one (at the table seeing Anna and Keith walk past): Dude isn't that the demon that came out of the giant ice that was transferred from a ship two months ago?

Soldier Two (next to Soldier One): Is he going to attack us?

Anna (look at the table near her after she stops walking): If you keep on talking. Do you want to skip lunch and return to your duties?

Soldier one and two: No mam.

Keith (following Anna from behind having his hair tied): Trying to scare your comrades?

(at an empty table)

Anna (while sitting): They're just being annoying.

Keith (sitting on the other side): Aren't you going to line up?

Anna: The chef already making my meal after entering.

Keith: I can tell that you don't interact with people.

Anna: I only talk to the captain and my squad.

Keith: If it's not too much to ask. Where did you find me?

Anna: Well...

Chef (interrupting while walking over with two trays): Sorry for keeping you waiting. (look at Keith) Welcome new guest.

Keith: Hello.

Chef (put the tray in front of Anna and Keith): Here's your chicken rice soup. (before walking away) Enjoy tour mean.

Anna (while she picks up a spoon): I ask the chef to make you that. It's an easy meal to digest since you've been in cold sleep.

Keith: Is this your favourite food?

Anna: That's hard to say. However, I do order this meal a lot during lunch. (look at Keith) I'm surprised you're not on guard being surrounded by so many humans.

Keith: Oh I'm on guard. I'm just not showing it but I could say the same about you.

Anna: Well we have something in common. (using the spoon to pick up a bit of rice with a small piece of chicken) By the way, there's no poison in your food.

Keith (shock after taking a bit): This tastes good.

Anna (while eating): It's just a normal meal. What doesn't a demon eat like this?

Keith: We do. It's just you have better flavour.

Anna (in his mind): I know he hasn't eaten anything but what he said was kinda weird. Maybe we humans are more advanced in cooking than demons.

Keith (in his mind while eating): I'm surprised she hasn't made a mess. However, what am I sensing from here?

Anna: Once we're done eating the captain would like to see you if that's alright?

Keith: I'm fine with that. I want to see this captain of yours.

Anna: Just don't rush we have plenty of time.

Keith (in his mind): I wonder why she's being nice to a stranger like me who was enemies to the human race.

(captain's office)

Captain (hearing a knock while behind his desk): Yes.

Anna (outside): It's me, sir. I thought the guest.

Captain: You can enter. (Keith enters after Anna opens the door) Hello. Before we start can I ask for your name? I don't want to call you a demon.

Keith (standing on the side of a chair): Are you going to kill me?

Jack (captain): Don't worry about that. All I want to do is to talk. My name is Jack.

Anna (behind the chair that's near Keith): Captain what are you thinking?

Jack: Anna before starting a serious conversation it doesn't hurt to introduce ourselves.

Keith (in his mind looking at Anna from the corner of his eyes): So the lieutenant's name is Anna. (look at Jack) My name is Keith. (sitting down on a chair) Nice to meet you. However, before we start I need to ask you something.

Jack: What's that?

Keith: Your female lieutenant said demons have been gone for a very long time. So do those creatures still exist?

Jack: You're talking about the shadow monsters?

Keith: So that's what they're called.

Jack: These monsters have no name so we name them that since they appear out of nowhere. Can you tell me how you know them?

Keith: During the war, my team just arrived to switch places but suddenly a black buddle appeared from a distance having a creature come out before more appeared. We fought back but some of my comrades were pulled into their buddle. Me and my friend escape but I'm not sure what happened to my comrades.

Anna: Through old reports during the war. When people check out your hideout they say the demons suddenly disappear but right when they are about to leave. Those shadow creatures appear beginning the war between the humans and the shadow race.

Jack: But how did you survive?

Keith: After escaping those creatures my friend knocked me out keeping me in that big ice block.

Anna: No wonder that giant ice didn't melt. I was sensing your friend's magic but why did you pick yesterday to break free?

Keith: I'm not very sure. I might have got impatient.

Jack: Why not work with us, Keith?

Anna (shock): Captain what are you thinking?

Jack: Anne we need anyone who is skillful at fighting to help us. Plus we have the same enemy.

Keith (crossing his leg after leaning back): Are you saying you want to become my ally?

Jack: That's right. I kind of feel that we gained some trust since we haven't attacked each other.

Keith: Before I decide I have another question.

Jack: What would you like to know?

Keith: Why am I getting a faint scent of a demon coming from the female lieutenant?

Anna (in her mind after touching her blindfold): I'm surprised he noticed this soon.
