Chapter 9

Lilly: It shouldn't be weird. Remember what the lieutenant said. (smiling at Keith after he puts a wet cloth on Anna's head) We're comrades. Also thanks to your abilities you're able to help Anna in tough situations. (see the stack of papers) Can you tell me what you were doing?

Keith (sitting back on the chair): I noticed Anna had some paperwork so I decided to help to cut her work down.

Lilly (surprise): You know human language already?

Keith: Yeah. Before going to bed I studied and did some practice writing.

Lilly (looks at the paper near Keith's hand): I can see your practice paid off.

Keith: Can you take these papers and ask the chef to do that thing?

Lilly: Don't worry the chef already preparing the food but remember to eat yourself.

Keith: I will.

Lilly (while taking the papers): To set your worries at ease you can just call for me when you're about to leave to get something to eat.

Keith (remember while Lily walks away): May I ask for your name before you go?

Lily (stop at the open door): My name is Lilly.

Keith (in his mind while continuing dealing with Anna's papers): I thought she was a loner but it's nice to see she has a close female friend.

(Sunset)

Anna (after sitting up wearing a black button shirt that has white bottoms with short sleeves and black knee-length trousers): Can I get some water?

Keith (passing a cup of water): Here.

Anna (pass the cup back after drinking): Thank you. (shocked having her eyes open after noticing) Keith, what are you doing in my room? (looked down) When did my clothes change?

Keith: Lilly changed them while I was out of the room. The reason I spent all day in here is because I'm taking care of a sick person. Anyway are you hungry?

Anna (looked away): Yeah.

Keith (pass a bowl of rice soup): I ask the chef to make it for you.

Anna (while taking the bowel): Have you eaten?

Keith: I have. Lilly almost yelled at me for not eating.

Anna: Well it's nice to see her acting the same to you. (in her mind after taking a spoonful) It's been a while since I had this and it always tastes great. (look at her desk) What were you doing?

Keith (sitting on a chair near Anna's bed): I was doing some of your paperwork. I'm sorry for doing things without your permission.

Amma (while eating): That's okay. However, it feels weird having you in here.

Keith: Do you want me to leave?

Anna (after she stops eating): No. You can stay.

Keith: Don't worry I haven't done anything.

Anna: I know a gentleman like you would never harm a lady if she was or wasn't sick. (after taking another scoop of her food) However, I forgot to ask you something.

Keith: What's that?

Anna: How did you enter the shadow realm?

Keith: I let myself get captured and I force a shadow creature to let us out before killing it.

Anna (after finishing): I see. Remind me to show you another way to enter and leave the shadow realm once I'm better.

Keith (while taking the bowel from Anna): Okay but can I ask what type of connection you have with Lilly?

Anna: Lilly is one of my close female friends. She was the first friend I made myself when I was a rank soldier. After becoming the rank of lieutenant I leave Lilly in charge of taking care of the other soldiers while I work. If you didn't wake up I was going to make her my partner.

Keith: I'm sorry.

Anna: There's no need to apologise. Lilly told me she's happy that I have a partner who can match my level and wishes to support both of us.

Keith (notice Anna's smile): That's the first time I've seen you smile.

Anna (blushing): I'm not always hiding my expressions.

Keith (Anna shocked after he pats her head): I'm just saying it looks nice. Now get some sleep. I'm going to take a quick wash and be right back.

Anna (after lying to the side looking away from Keith): If you get sleepy you can sleep on the sofa.

Keith: Okay.

(middle of the night)

Anna (turning around while talking in her sleep): Please I don't take my eyes away. (gripping her pillow with her right hand having tears fall) I don't want to die.

Keith (touches Anna's hand wearing his temporary pyjamas): Don't worry. (see Anna's sleeping face at ease) If you ever lose them again then (wipe her tears) I'll be your eyes. (in his mind) How long have you been having these memory dreams?

(next day morning)

Lilly (after seeing Anna sit up): Good morning Anna. Are you feeling better?

Anna (look at Lilly): I am. Also thanks for coming by when I was sick.

Lilly: You're welcome. The second lieutenant said your fever fone so you can return to your duties if you're feeling up to it.

Anna (while getting out of bed): Where is Keith? Now that I think of it wouldn't you be at the training grounds right now?

Lilly: The second lieutenant wanted to do their training so I could take care of you. (look at Anna after hanging her coat up) Is everything okay?

Anna (walking to the bathroom): Yeah. I was just surprised. (after opening the door) You can go back to the training ground. (look at Lilly) I'll meet you there.

Lilly (while walking): Don't rush yourself since you just recovered.

Anna (smiling while Lilly opens the door): I won't.

Lilly (look at Anna with a smile): It's nice to see your eyes out of battle. (at the same time closing the door) Anyway, I'll see you at the training ground.

(Bathroom)

Anna (looking at the mirror): But (touching the mirror) these eyes belong to someone else. (turns around after suddenly seeing a person behind her) What was that? (in her mind) What I saw didn't look human.
