Journey of the Last Demon and the Female Lieutenant

Chapter 18

(front line)

While fighting with the minatour Anna and Keith split into two teams. Anna commanded the vanguard squad who was able to dodge any attack while Keith commanded the gun squad.

Keith (while firing a couple of lightning breams from his gun): How's the damage going at your end?

Anna (from Keith's earpiece): Not bad but as we expected it won't be easy to land any attacks.

Soldier: Second lieutenant we have the rocket ready. We only have one shot sadly.

Keith (look at the soldier): That's alright. (look forward) Anna, get your team away.

Anna: Alright.

While they loaded the rocket Anna's team tried to do what they could to keep the minatour distracted. While they heard the rocket being launched her team backed away to take cover but right before the rocket reached the monster it used its axe to cut the rocket in half.

Minotaur (raises its weapon having the blade covered in shadow aura): That toy couldn't hurt me.

When the minotaur was about to hit the ground Anna's eyes glowed a bit before doing a cross block having her swords be covered in her wind magic to strengthen the blade.

Anna (in her mind struggling): I won't let you kill anyone else.

After pushing the minator back Anna was about to move but she dropped one of her swords to touch her head. Once the monster got its footing it punched Anna far away from her squad to hit a tree but Keith used his lightning speed to catch Anna before taking the hit.

Soldier (raises his sword): Everyone attacks.

Every soldier: Yeah!

(far away)

Keith (in a bit of pain having one of his eyes open while sitting on the floor): Anything broken?

Anna (standing): No. (picking her sword up): You know you don't always have to protect me.

Keith: I could say the same to you. Ever since I joined you always protected your team instead of telling them to dodge.

Anna (eyes glow a bit while looking at Keith watching him stand): It's my job to keep my team alive!

Keith (after slapping Anna's face): You idiot! (grab Anna's collar after she drops her sword) Listen here. You're the first human I can actually call a friend then Lilly and Jack join the list of people I can trust. It's all thanks to you that I was able to trust them.

Anna (eye stop glowing): I'm sorry. What that jerk said got to me making me forget how I do my duties but thanks to that slap I realised that I only need to listen to positive people's voices. (look at Keith) If you wish to continue to protect me then do so but don't die.

Keith (after letting Anna go while hearing the fight from their earpiece): I'm ready for your orders.

Anna (grabbing her sword): I want you to get everyone back to the tower.

Keith: Are you seriously pushing me away after what we just talked about?

Anna: Of course not. With that other form, I should be able to hold back the minotaur until you get back. I'll ask Lilly to meet up with you from the other side.

Keith: I already have a feeling this is a bad idea but I'm stupid to think this plan will work.

Anna: Thank you for hearing out this reckless commander. (touch her earpiece) Lilly. (taking her earpiece off after hearing static) Great it's broken.

Keith (pass his earpiece to Anna): Use mine. If you need me we can communicate through our mind. (in Anna's mind when he started walking) I'm heading out but please remember not to die.

Anna (look at Keith while he runs off): I'll try not to. (after putting on the second earpiece) Lilly you there?

Lilly (from Anna's earpiece): I can. Is everything alright?

Anna: Keith is going to guide the rest of the team back to the tower and I need you two to meet up.

Lilly: Wait don't tell me you're staying there to fight?

Anna: I am but I'm not doing the full fight alone. Also, I need a second earpiece mic ready for Keith. Mine broke so I'm using his.

Lilly: Alright but you better come home.

Anna (smiling while she starts walking): Don't worry Keith will make sure we'll get back alive.

(battlefield)

Minotaur (watching the soldiers stand): You bugs are so annoying.

Keith (walking forward holding his hand out after releasing a lightning beam): You're just too slow.

Soldier (look at Keith while standing): Second lieutenant.

Keith: We're leaving.

Soldier two: Where's the first lieutenant?

Keith: Anna fine.

Minotaur (unleashing a horizontal slash): Here's come the pain.

Keith: Duck!

When everyone lay on their stomach Keith jumped over the axe before being kicked to the sky. The minotaur unleashes a shadow slash towards the air but suddenly icicle spikes fall hitting the monster's body.

Soldier (after Keith landed in front of the soldiers): You alright sir?

Keith (look behind him): Yeah. Quickly get the injured and move out.

Soldier two (and one quickly salute): Sir.

Keith (in his mind while his lance appears): It was weak but the pain you feel in your mind hurts when using magic to block.

Minotaur (while the dust disappears): Why is a demon fighting with the humans?

Keith (while his body gets covered in lightning): Because we're fighting the same enemy.

Keith suddenly disappeared before appearing near the minotaur's face to unleash a long diagonal slash once his blade glowed. He then landed on an ice platform in mid-air to jump over reaching the monster's head before releasing a powerful lightning strike through the minotaur's body when Keith stabbed his lance in the monster's back neck.

Anna (in Keith's mind): Keith gets out of the way.
