Chapter 16

Keith (slams his hand to the wall after pushing Anna to the side): Everyone worries. Jack, Lilly, and the lieutenant from squads three and four are worried.

Anna: Okay. I'll be careful.

Keith (stepping away): Thank you.

Anna (start walking): We should get going.

Keith (following behind putting his coat on): Right.

(outside squad one base)

Lilly (see Anna and Keith while standing in line with the other soldiers): Salute!

Anna (and Keith stand in front while the soldiers stop saluting): Good morning. I hope you all slept well last night but today we can't slack around. We're entering the shadow realm so no goofing around.

All the soldiers: Yes mam!

Keith: Now get ready to head out.

All the soldiers: Sir!

Lieutenant three (walking towards Keith and Anna while the soldiers enter the army trucks): Aww I missed your speech.

Anna (look at lutenate three): You watched. I sense your aura nearby.

Lutinate three: Your senses never fail you when your eyes are open or covered.

Lilly (at an army truck): Lieutenant Anna, Second Lieutenant Keith everyone ready.

Anna (walking towards Lilly): Coming.

Lieutenant three (before Keith follows): You got a second?

Keith (look at the lieutenant): You have to be fast.

Lieutenant three (whispers in Keith's ear): Remember what we talk about Anna losing her mind?

Keith (whispering): Did you forget to tell me something?

Lieutenant three: When Anna uses her eyes she's more sensitive in the shadow realm so don't be surprised when she removes her blindfold.

Keith: Thanks for the information.

Anna (from a distance): Keith let's go!

Keith (running towards her): Coming!

While Anna enters the army truck to sit next to the driver Keith jumps on top of that truck to sit above where Anna is. After he knocked on her window Anna gave a sign to the other three trucks telling them their moving out.

(outside the base truck roof)

Anna (in Keith's mind): So what were you two talking about?

Keith (in Anna's mind while lying down on his back having his arms crossed on his backhead): He was telling me about your eyes. When you first used them.

Anna: That was last year when I was still nineteen. By the way, you're going to fall off.

Keith: No I won't. Wake me up when we get there. I'm taking a nap.

Anna (in her mind while having a fire aura appear on Keith): I'll cover him in my fire so he doesn't get a cold.

(deep in the forest)

Keith (in Anna's mind while sitting up after opening his eyes when he senses something): What's that?

Anna (in Keith's mind): I'm surprised you're awake. What you're sensing is the portal aura. For some reason, humans can't sense it.

Keith: Not even someone with your high magic sense?

Anna: Exactly. My guess is only people who aren't human can sense where the portals are.

Keith: I think we should stop here and continue on foot.

Anna (smiling): That's what I was thinking.

(inside truck)

Driver: Everything alright lieutenant?

Anna: Stop the trucks. We're walking from here.

Driver: Are you sure?

Anna: We're close.

(near cave)

Lilly: Is this the place the scout found?

Anna (touch the side of one of her eyes): I'm sure. (look at the soldier) Half of the medics and soldiers will stay behind as planned. I leave the commands to the medic group leader.

Medic leader: I won't let you down.

Anna: Everyone else follows me.

(inside the cave)

Keith (walking next to Anna): This may be a dumb question but is it a good idea to split the unit?

Anna: It's best to have a safe base to retreat the injured. Plus with this big group, it is easier for the soldiers to mainly listen to their group leader. Also, it allows me to give specific orders to those leaders.

Keith: During the war in my time the demons acted on their own and the leader of the squad would have their own mini-squad.

Anna: Isn't that dangerous?

Keith: On the battle I was taught we had to survive on our own. You can't rely on other people.

Anna (quietly): That's right. I...

Keith (interrupting): What were you saying?

Anna: Umm. Nothing. (see a light up ahead) Look we're close to the portal. (in her mind) Was I about to say something without knowing? Maybe I should see the doctor after the mission.

(shadow realm tower)

Keith (while the other soldiers appear through the portal): So we're in the tower?

Anna (everyone putting their earpiece mic on): That's right. For some reason, the shadow monsters don't enter the twoer so we're completely safe.

Lilly (while seeing Anna remove her blindfold): You're removing your blindfold already?

Anna: I am. I don't want to struggle to take it off later but (pass the blindfold to Lilly) can I leave my blindfold to you?

Lilly (taking Anna blindfold): Of course.

Keith (when Anna starts walking down the stairs): We're moving out.
