"June." Fred knocked on his old bedroom door. "Are you ready to talk yet?"
"No."
"Can I at least come in?" He asked, trying to jiggle the door knob.
"No."
"Please?"
"No." Juniper barked once again, sitting on the ground in front of a mirror. She was inches away from it, trying to patch up the cut above her eyebrow. Her jaw had bruised and her ribs ached whenever she breathed, but the cut was the most annoying thing in her life at that moment.
"I can fix your bruises." Fred sighed through the door, leaning his head against it. He was desperate to see her. Desperate to look into her eyes properly and kiss her. But as soon as she had arrived at the Burrow with Ron and Ginny, she ran straight up the stairs and locked herself in the bedroom. And now that she was able to use magic outside of school, it had become a problem. "I'll tell you what happened once you left."
It took a moment, but the door creaked open slightly, allowing him to step inside, before slamming shut again. Juniper barely looked up, from behind her eyelashes she watched him through the mirror, her heart rate spiking at the sight of him. She was finally seeing him up close, without blood clouding her vision, and her stomach tightened, her mind swirled and her breath hitched, all at once. He looked so serious and protective as he made his way over to her, a soft, involuntary whimper left her lips before she could stop it.
Without a word, Fred sat beside her on the ground in front of the mirror, his fingertips gently grazing her skin as he brushed a strand of hair, matted with blood, away from her face. His touch was so gentle, yet so deliberate, that it sent a shiver down her spine. Juniper's hand trembled as she dabbed around the cut on her forehead with a damp cloth, having to close her eyes each time she felt Fred's breath on her neck."There's still dirt and grass in the cut." He murmured into her ear, his voice low and nurturing as he leaned in closer, inspecting the cut carefully, as though she was the most delicate thing in he world. "We'll have to clean it properly before we can fix it."
"What happened after I left?" Juniper deflected, forcing her eyes downward to avoid the temptation of looking at him in the eye through the mirror. Fred didn't answer straight away. Instead, he moved his attention to her arm. Holding it out straight as his fingers brushed against her skin, checking for any more bruises or smaller cuts. In a low, hushed tone, he answered.
"I went up and broke that guys fucking neck." He paused, pressing his lips against Junipers shoulder. "Killed him right then and there."
"You're so dramatic." Juniper rolled her eyes, fighting hard to supress a grin, soft laughter bubbling into her voice. She tried to keep her composure, but Fred hovered so close to her skin, he left a trail of heat wherever he made contact. Her tone dropped between amusement and something heavier, pressing him for an answer. "What really happened?"
Fred sighed deeply, pulling away from her, a groan threatening to escape her throat at the slight distance between them. A regretful smirk tugged at his lips, looking at the mirror for Juniper, who was still avoiding his eyes.
"He ran off the moment I looked back at him. Fucking coward." There was frustration and anger in his voice, but undertones of something protective and possessive, that made Juniper's heart flutter and her thighs quiver. "Can I clean you up now?"
His words were gentle, but his tone left no room for argument, making it clear he wouldn't take no for answer. He grabbed her hand, his thumb brushing the aching cuts on her knuckles she got from beating the Ravenclaw boy. Every slight movement, every breath, was filled with an unspoken tension that drew her closer to him, wanting to forget about everything but the heat between them.
