1000 words.Jungwon breathed deeply as he stepped into the forest, relishing the fresh air and the peaceful sounds of nature. The early morning sun filtered through the dense canopy, casting dappled light onto the path. He felt a sense of calm as he walked further, the world of schedules and rehearsals fading into the background.
Birds chirped melodiously, and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze added to the tranquil ambiance. Jungwon smiled, feeling the stress melt away with each step deeper into the woods. The trail was narrow but well-trodden, and he was confident in his ability to find his way back.
As the hours passed, Jungwon marveled at the beauty around him, pausing now and then to take in the sight of wildflowers and the occasional darting squirrel. Time seemed to slip by unnoticed until the clouds began to gather, dark and heavy. The first droplets of rain were small, almost refreshing, but within minutes, the sky opened up in a torrential downpour.
Jungwon pulled up the hood of his thin jacket, grumbling under his breath. "Of all days," he muttered, frustrated by the sudden change in weather. His pace quickened as he tried to find his way back, but the rain obscured the path, turning the ground beneath him into a slippery mess.
His irritation soon gave way to anxiety when he realized he couldn't recognize any landmarks. The familiar path was now an unfamiliar maze, and the dense foliage all looked the same. The sound of the rain muffled everything else, adding to his growing sense of isolation.
Jungwon's breath quickened as panic set in. His heart pounded as he tried to retrace his steps, but the relentless rain made it impossible. His jacket was soaked through, and the cold seeped into his bones. Shivering, he stumbled over roots and rocks, his energy draining rapidly.
Suddenly, his foot slipped on a patch of mud, sending him lurching forward. He instinctively thrust his hands out to break his fall, landing hard on the ground. His chest hit the wet earth with a thud, and sharp pain shot through his ankle as it twisted beneath him. Gritting his teeth, he tried to move, but the pain in his ankle was unbearable.
The cold rain continued to batter him as he lay there, the pain, exhaustion, and chill overwhelming him. His arms were bruised from the impact, and the throbbing in his ankle made it impossible to stand. Jungwon's vision blurred as his body finally gave out, and he collapsed into unconsciousness.
Back at the house, Jake was looking for Jungwon to discuss their upcoming schedule. He checked the kitchen and Jungwon's room, but there was no sign of him. Frowning, he approached the others.
"Hey, has anyone seen Jungwon? He's not in the house," Jake asked, his voice tinged with concern.
The members paused, exchanging worried glances. Sunghoon recalled, "He went for a hike this morning, remember?"
Jake's eyes widened. "That was hours ago, and he hasn't come back. It's pouring out there now."
A chill ran through the room as the realization dawned on them. Grabbing raincoats and flashlights, they hurried out into the woods, their worry mounting with each step. The rain had lessened to a drizzle, but the path was treacherous, and their voices barely carried through the thick trees.
Niki, leading one of the search parties, was driven by a mix of fear and determination. He scanned the forest floor intently, his heart pounding with every second that passed without finding Jungwon.
Then, in the dim light of his flashlight, Niki saw a figure lying still on the ground. His breath caught in his throat as he rushed forward, dropping to his knees beside Jungwon.
"Jungwon!" Niki's voice cracked as he called out, shaking his friend gently. Jungwon didn't respond, his skin icy and his clothes soaked through.
"Over here! I found him!" Niki yelled, his voice urgent. The others arrived swiftly, their faces pale with fear.
Jake knelt beside Jungwon, inspecting him as best as he could in the dim light. "We need to get him home, now."
Jay and Sunghoon carefully lifted Jungwon, supporting his limp body between them as they hurried back to the house, the gravity of the situation weighing heavily on them.
Once inside, they laid Jungwon on the couch. Sunoo rushed to grab warm towels and dry clothes while Heeseung quickly prepared a warm bath. The members worked in a coordinated flurry, driven by the urgent need to warm Jungwon up. They gently removed his soaked clothes, revealing the bruises on his arms and the swelling on his ankle.
"His ankle is swollen," Jake noted with worry. "Looks like he sprained it during the fall."
Heeseung nodded, his face set in concentration. "Let's get him in the bath first. We'll tend to the bruises after."
They gently placed Jungwon in the warm bath, restoring his body heat. After ensuring the water had warmed him sufficiently, they dried him off and dressed him in soft, warm clothes before moving him back to the couch. Heeseung, with a steady hand, applied a soothing cream to Jungwon's bruises and wrapped his ankle to reduce the swelling.
As Jungwon stirred, his eyelids fluttering open, he was met with the sight of his bandmates gathered around him. Their worried faces slowly softened into relieved smiles.
"Welcome back," Heeseung said gently, his voice warm.
"You scared us," Jay added, though his tone was now light, filled with affection.
Jungwon's lips curved into a weak smile, his eyes shining with gratitude. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to make you worry."
"It's okay," Sunghoon assured him. "We found you. We'll always find you."
The room fell into a comfortable silence, filled only with the soft sounds of breathing and the occasional rustle of blankets. Each member exchanged a glance, unspoken promises passing between them. They knew they would always be there for each other, through every storm, every stumble.
No matter what came their way, they would look after each other.
I was listening to Icky from Kard when rereading it, and of course Jiwoo's part in the beginning (when she says "I'mma get down") came near Jungwon fall. I love the coincidence.
