900 words. The SKZ Code filming had been going smoothly, filled with the usual chaos and laughter. The members were running around, shouting over each other as they competed in yet another ridiculous game.
Felix had been laughing too. His deep voice rang out as he jogged toward Han, eyes bright with excitement.
But beneath it all, something felt wrong.
His chest had been tight all morning, the familiar weight of discomfort pressing down on him. It wasn't the first time he had felt like this—his asthma had always been unpredictable. He had dealt with it before. So he pushed through, pretending everything was fine.
He didn't want to worry the others. They were working hard, and he didn't want to slow them down.
But then, as he ran to avoid Hyunjin's playful grab, it hit.
A sharp, suffocating tightness seized his lungs, and suddenly, air wouldn't come.
His steps faltered. His hands shot up instinctively to his chest, fingers curling over the fabric of his hoodie as his breath caught.
The laughter around him didn't fade immediately—everyone was too caught up in the game.
Felix tried to inhale, but the air barely made it through.
His vision blurred.
Panic set in.
They still hadn't noticed.
He stumbled back, gripping at his chest, his breaths coming in short, wheezing gasps.
Then, finally—
"Lix?" It was Seungmin. His voice was laced with confusion at first, but then his eyes widened.
Something was wrong.
"Hyung." Seungmin's voice sharpened, his usual calm demeanor cracking. "Something's wrong with Felix."
Everything stopped.
The playful energy disappeared in an instant. Everyone turned toward Felix, and the shift in their expressions was immediate.
"Felix?" Chan was in front of him in seconds, his voice urgent but controlled.
Felix tried to respond, but his chest squeezed painfully. He couldn't get enough air. His entire body trembled.
"Shit—he's having an asthma attack," Changbin cursed. He was already moving, reaching into Felix's hoodie pocket, knowing exactly where he kept his inhaler. His hands were shaking as he fished it out.
Felix could barely focus on what was happening around him. His head was spinning, the edges of his vision darkening.
He heard voices — worried, panicked — but it all blurred together.
"Lix, hey, hey — look at me," a voice cut through the noise.
Lee Know.
Felix barely registered it as hands cupped his face, grounding him. Lee Know's voice was steady, firm but gentle. "You're okay, Felix. You've got this. Breathe as much as you can, alright? We're here."
The inhaler was pressed to his lips. Changbin's hands were still trembling, but his grip was steady as he helped Felix press down.
"One, two, three — breathe in," Chan counted softly, his hand rubbing slow, firm circles into Felix's back.
Felix tried, but it wasn't enough. His chest was still too tight. His body was still shaking, and the wheezing hadn't stopped.
Fear flickered across Chan's face. His fingers pressed into Felix's back with more urgency. "Another one. Give him another dose."
Changbin didn't hesitate. He pressed the inhaler again.
Felix sucked in another breath, forcing himself to focus on the air entering his lungs, even though it felt impossible.
"Slow," Lee Know reminded him. His thumbs rubbed soothingly against Felix's temples. "You're okay. Just focus on my voice."
The panic didn't disappear immediately, but Felix clung to Lee Know's steady tone, Chan's warm hand on his back, the way the others had formed a protective circle around him, their eyes filled with fear they were trying to mask.
Another inhale.
Then another.
And finally—something shifted.
The suffocating tightness in his chest loosened just enough for him to gasp in a deeper breath.
He coughed violently, his entire body shaking from the effort. But air was finally making its way through.
The relief hit all at once.
Everyone exhaled.
Hyunjin's legs gave out, and he collapsed onto his knees beside Felix, gripping his wrist tightly. "What the hell, man," he muttered, his voice shaking.
"You scared the shit out of us," Han added, rubbing his face with both hands. His usual grin was nowhere to be seen.
Felix tried to speak, but his throat felt raw. "Sorry," he rasped out.
"Don't," Chan cut in immediately, his voice sharp but filled with emotion. "Don't apologize."
Felix swallowed, his body still weak. He could feel the way his muscles trembled from the lack of oxygen, how drained he felt now that the attack was over.
"Why didn't you say anything earlier?" Seungmin asked, quieter this time. His voice was still unsteady.
Felix hesitated. "Didn't want to ruin the filming," he admitted.
A thick silence followed.
"You idiot," Lee Know muttered, his usual teasing tone absent. "Who cares about filming? You couldn't breathe."
Hyunjin suddenly pulled Felix into a tight hug, his body still trembling. "Don't ever do that again," he mumbled into Felix's shoulder.
Felix let out a small, breathless chuckle. "Noted."
Chan ruffled his hair, but his hand lingered a little longer than usual. "You're taking a break," he said firmly. "No arguments."
Felix nodded this time, too exhausted to argue even if he wanted to.
