1000 words.Soobin's bracelet had always been more than just an accessory. His mother had given it to him when he debuted, a reminder of how far he'd come and the love that had carried him there. It had become a part of him, a quiet source of comfort through the long nights of practice and the overwhelming pressure of being a leader. No matter what, it stayed on his wrist—until the day it broke.
It happened so fast.
They were in the middle of practice, going over choreography for what felt like the hundredth time. Fatigue was creeping in, but they pushed through, determined to perfect every step. As Soobin spun around, Taehyun moved at the same time, their bodies colliding. It was a simple accident, nothing unusual. But the sound of beads hitting the floor echoed like a gunshot in Soobin's ears.
His bracelet—his precious bracelet—was broken.
A rush of frustration surged through him. "Are you serious, Taehyun?!" His voice was sharper than he intended, but he was too angry to stop. "Do you even watch where you're going? This bracelet meant everything to me, and you just—just broke it like it was nothing!"
The room fell silent. The other members froze, exchanging uneasy glances. Taehyun, usually quick with a witty remark, didn't say anything at first. His face was unreadable, his hands clenching at his sides.
Then, after a moment, he finally muttered, "I'm sorry." But his voice was so quiet, so weak, that it didn't even sound like him.
Soobin scoffed, shaking his head. "Whatever." He knelt down to pick up the scattered beads, anger still simmering in his chest.
Taehyun stood there for a second longer before turning away. He didn't argue, didn't defend himself. He just walked off, pressing a hand to his forehead as if trying to steady himself.
Soobin didn't notice. He was too wrapped up in his frustration to see how pale Taehyun looked, how unsteady his steps were. He didn't know that Taehyun had been hiding a fever all day, pushing through the pain just to practice with them. And he definitely didn't know that Taehyun had been living with a secret much heavier than a broken bracelet.
That night, guilt gnawed at Soobin. The anger had faded, leaving behind a heavy weight in his chest. He knew he had overreacted. It was just a bracelet—it could be fixed. But the way Taehyun had looked... there was something off about it.
With a sigh, he got up and made his way to Taehyun's room. He hesitated outside the door before knocking lightly. "Taehyun?" No response.
He knocked again, a little louder. "Hey, I just wanted to—"
Something felt wrong.
Soobin pushed the door open, and his breath caught in his throat.
Taehyun was lying on his bed, completely still. His chest was rising and falling in shallow, uneven breaths, his skin unnaturally pale. A thin layer of sweat coated his forehead, and his lips were slightly parted, but he wasn't moving.
Fear gripped Soobin's heart. "Taehyun!" He rushed to his side, shaking his shoulder. "Wake up!"
No response.
His panic must have been loud enough to alert the others, because within seconds, the members were there. Beomgyu was the first to reach them, his face going pale. Yeonjun grabbed his phone with shaking hands, calling for an ambulance while Hueningkai hovered nearby, looking terrified.
The next few hours passed in a blur—sirens, hospital halls, whispered prayers. Soobin sat in the waiting room, his leg bouncing anxiously, his mind racing.
It felt like an eternity before the doctors finally came out. But when they spoke, their words knocked the air out of his lungs.
Leukemia.
Soobin felt like the world had stopped.
It didn't seem real. Taehyun, their strong, bright, resilient Taehyun, had been silently fighting this battle on his own. He had been pushing himself through pain, exhaustion, and sickness, all without telling them. And today... today had been too much.
Guilt crashed over Soobin like a tidal wave.
While Taehyun had been struggling just to stay on his feet, Soobin had yelled at him over something as meaningless as a bracelet. He had let his anger cloud his judgment, had hurt someone he cared about when they needed support the most.
The weight of it was unbearable.
When Taehyun finally woke up, he was met with the sight of his members around him, relief and worry etched into their faces. And Soobin—Soobin was the first to grab his hand, eyes red, voice shaking.
"Taehyun, I—" He swallowed hard. "I'm so sorry. For everything I said. I didn't know... I should have known." His voice cracked. "I should have been there for you."
Taehyun was weak, but his gaze was steady. He squeezed Soobin's hand lightly, offering a small, tired smile. "It's okay," he whispered. "You're here now."
And from that moment on, Soobin and the others made a silent promise.
They would be there for Taehyun. Through every chemo session, every moment of exhaustion, every hard day. They supported him through the sickness, through the pain, reminding him that he wasn't alone. They made him laugh when he felt like crying, cheered him on when he felt like giving up.
It took weeks. Months. But eventually, the doctors had good news. The treatments had worked. Taehyun was going to be okay.
The day they heard those words, Soobin hugged Taehyun so tightly it was almost suffocating. But neither of them minded.
"I'll never take you for granted again," Soobin whispered, voice thick with emotion.
Taehyun chuckled weakly, patting Soobin's back. "You never did."
Soobin had lost a bracelet that day. But he had almost lost something far more precious.
And he would never let that happen again.
