The arena had been electric. The lights had been blinding, the music deafening, and the energy... immense. After a long night of performing, the members of The Boyz were riding high on adrenaline, their smiles wide and their spirits high. But even the greatest highs had to come down eventually.
As the night wore on, exhaustion began to settle in. The members, always used to the late nights and hectic schedules, had learned to power through, but it was clear that Kevin, the group's lead vocalist, was beginning to feel the toll of the day. His usual cheerful energy seemed to wane, and he had been more quiet than usual in the moments following the concert.
The other members were too distracted by their own exhaustion and excitement to notice the subtle signs : Kevin's pale face, the slight trembling of his hands, and the occasional deep breath he took to steady himself. He had been hiding it well, but the truth was, Kevin had struggled with anemia for years, and long performances like this, especially after the intense rehearsals, could sometimes trigger an episode.
As they finished up backstage, heading to the dressing rooms to wind down, Kevin's condition took a sharp turn. He could feel the dizziness creeping up on him, his vision swimming with each step. His body felt heavy, as though the weight of the world was pressing down on his chest, and his breathing was shallow.
He tried to keep it together. He didn't want to make a scene or worry the others. But his body refused to cooperate.
"Kevin? You alright?" It was Sangyeon's voice, concerned and slightly wary as he noticed Kevin faltering.
Kevin gave him a weak smile, but it didn't fool Sangyeon. His heart dropped when he saw how pale Kevin had become.
"Kevin..." he said again, more urgently, his hand reaching out to steady him. "Are you feeling okay?"
Kevin shook his head, but before he could say anything, his knees buckled beneath him, and he collapsed.
"Kevin!" The room erupted into chaos as the members rushed toward him. Sangyeon was the first to catch him, easing him to the floor as the others gathered around in a panic.
"Kevin, stay with us," Sunwoo exclaimed, kneeling beside him. He was visibly shaking, his usual brashness replaced with worry.
Kevin's eyes fluttered open, and his head felt like it was spinning. His vision was blurry, and his pulse was racing. He tried to speak but found his throat too dry, too weak.
"I-I'm fine," Kevin mumbled, but his voice barely reached above a whisper. It was a lie, and they all knew it. The other members exchanged looks of concern, already aware of his struggle with anemia.
Eric kneeled next to Kevin's head, gently lifting it into his lap. "No more lies, Kev. You're not fine. We're calling for help. Just hold on, okay?"
Kevin wanted to protest, but he couldn't find the strength. His body felt like lead, and the world around him kept spinning. He squeezed his eyes shut, hoping the dizziness would pass.
Younghoon quickly grabbed his phone, dialing the emergency line for a doctor. He spoke quickly but calmly, his usual composed demeanor giving Kevin some small measure of comfort. "Just breathe, Kevin. They'll be here soon."
Sangyeon, still kneeling by Kevin's side, carefully brushed back Kevin's sweaty hair from his forehead. His hands were gentle, but the worry in his eyes was evident. "You should've told us sooner. You've been pushing yourself too hard."
Kevin didn't have the energy to respond. He could feel his heart racing, the blood pumping in his ears. The members were right. He had been overexerting himself, trying to push through despite his condition. He didn't want to be a burden to the group, he didn't want them to see him as weak.
But now, as the dizziness slowly ebbed away and the color returned to his face, he realized how much they cared for him. How much they always had.
The door to the dressing room burst open, and the medical team rushed in, quickly assessing Kevin's condition. They placed him on an oxygen mask and administered some fluids. As the members stood around, still watching closely, the doctor spoke to them in low tones.
"It looks like Kevin is experiencing an anemia episode due to exhaustion," the doctor explained. "It's important that he rests and rehydrates. He needs to avoid any more strenuous activities for the next 24 hours."
The members nodded solemnly, but each of them couldn't hide the worry on their faces. It was Jacob who finally broke the silence. "He's okay, right?"
The doctor gave them a reassuring smile. "He's stable now, but he'll need to rest for the next few hours. If his symptoms worsen, we'll need to take further precautions, but for now, he's safe."
With that, the members exhaled in relief, though their concern was far from gone. The doctor left soon after, leaving them to help Kevin get comfortable.
It wasn't until the group settled into their hotel room later that night that Kevin finally had the chance to speak. He sat on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, sipping on some water that Hyunjae had brought him. His body still felt weak, but the dizziness had subsided. The exhaustion from the episode had left him drained.
He could see the members watching him, concern still written on their faces.
"I'm sorry," Kevin whispered, his voice hoarse. "I didn't mean to worry you."
"Kevin," Q said softly, walking over to him and sitting next to him on the couch. "You never have to apologize for something like that. We're a team, and we're here to take care of you. Always."
Kevin's eyes filled with tears as he looked at Q. "I didn't want to be a burden," he admitted, his voice cracking. "I know how hard everyone works, and I didn't want to be the one holding you back."
"You're not a burden, Kevin," Sangyeon spoke up, his voice gentle but firm. "We all care about you. We need you to be healthy, and if that means taking a step back, then we'll take that step with you. You're not alone."
The other members nodded, their faces showing the same comforting expressions. They were right. No matter how hard he tried to push through, no matter how much he wanted to protect them from worry, it was clear now that they would always stand by him.
"You can rest," Sunwoo said softly. "Don't worry about anything. We'll handle the rest. Just take care of yourself."
Kevin felt his heart swell with gratitude. It wasn't just the words, but the sincere, unwavering care in their eyes. They didn't see him as a burden. They saw him as part of the team, part of their family.
"Thank you," Kevin whispered, leaning back into the couch as he closed his eyes. "I don't know what I'd do without you guys."
"Don't worry, Kevin," Eric said with a soft smile. "You'll never have to find out. We're here for you, always."
As the members gathered around him, keeping a watchful eye and making sure he rested, Kevin felt the weight on his shoulders slowly lift. He wasn't alone in this. The Boyz were his family, and they would always take care of each other.
