Ni-ki's heart was still racing as the concert in Tokyo came to a close. The energy of the fans, the synchronized performances, and the spotlight shining bright had him feeling invincible. But that invincibility wavered as he exited the stage and accidentally misjudged a step. His foot twisted awkwardly, and he tumbled to the ground.
"Ni-ki! Are you okay?" Sunghoon called, jogging over as the others turned to check on him.
Ni-ki brushed it off with a sheepish smile, quickly standing and patting himself down. "I'm fine! Just tripped, no big deal."
They laughed it off, and the group headed to the dressing room, eager to rest. It wasn't until later that Ni-ki noticed a dull ache in his leg. Sitting on the couch, he lifted his pants to check and frowned.
A sizable bruise had formed on his shin. It wasn't unusually dark, but considering how lightly he'd fallen, it was much larger than he expected.
"Ni-ki, what's wrong?" Jungwon asked, noticing his furrowed brow.
"Nothing, just a bruise," Ni-ki replied, showing him.
Sunoo leaned over, his expression turning curious. "That's a big one for just tripping, don't you think?"
"Maybe I just hit it harder than I thought," Ni-ki mumbled, trying not to let the sudden wave of unease show. He brushed them off with a grin and promised himself it was nothing. After all, idols were always getting bumps and scrapes—it was just another part of the job.
But as he climbed into bed that night, Ni-ki couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't quite right.
The weeks after the Tokyo concert flew by. Enhypen was back in Korea, busy with schedules, rehearsals, and a rare free afternoon. Today, the members were making the most of it with a spirited game of foot volleyball in the backyard.
"Ni-ki, get ready!" Heeseung called, kicking the ball high.
Ni-ki lunged, diving to save it. His knee scraped against the ground as he fell, but he managed to pop the ball back into play. The game continued without pause, laughter and friendly taunts filling the air.
After a while, Ni-ki noticed a dull throbbing in his knee and glanced down. The scrape he'd gotten earlier hadn't seemed like a big deal, but now it was bleeding through the bandage they'd hastily slapped on.
"Hyung," Ni-ki called, his voice uneasy. "Something's wrong."
Sunghoon, who was closest, jogged over. "What's up?"
Ni-ki pointed to his knee, and Sunghoon's eyes widened. The bandage was soaked through, and blood was trickling down his leg.
"Ni-ki, it's still bleeding this much? It's been almost an hour!" Sunghoon exclaimed, his voice rising in concern.
"What's going on?" Jungwon asked as the others crowded around.
Jake crouched down, carefully peeling back the bandage. His expression darkened. "This isn't normal."
Sunoo grabbed Ni-ki's arm. "We need to go to the hospital. Now."
"But it's just a scrape..." Ni-ki began, but Heeseung cut him off, his tone firm.
"It's not just a scrape if it's bleeding this much for this long."
The group quickly piled into the car, the playful atmosphere replaced with tense silence. Ni-ki sat with his leg propped up, his anxiety growing as he glanced at his knee. Something wasn't right, and he could feel it.
At the hospital, the doctor's expression turned serious after examining Ni-ki and running some tests. The results came back, and the doctor called Ni-ki and the members into a quiet room.
"Ni-ki, you have a clotting disorder," the doctor explained. "It's a condition where your blood doesn't clot properly, which is why even minor injuries like a scrape or a bruise can cause excessive bleeding."
The room went silent. Ni-ki's heart sank, his mind racing. A clotting disorder? What did that even mean? Would he still be able to perform, to dance, to live normally?
"Is it dangerous?" Ni-ki asked, his voice small.
"It can be if injuries aren't treated promptly," the doctor replied gently. "But with proper care, you can manage it and live a full, healthy life. You'll need to be cautious with injuries and might need medication or treatments, depending on the situation."
Ni-ki nodded slowly, but tears welled up in his eyes. "What if I mess up? What if I get hurt again?"
Sunghoon immediately pulled him into a hug. "Hey, you're not alone in this. We're all here for you."
"Exactly," Heeseung added, his voice steady. "We'll make sure you're safe, Ni-ki. You don't have to face this by yourself."
Sunoo crouched next to him, holding his hand. "It's okay to be scared, but you're strong. And we'll learn everything about this condition together."
Jungwon smiled reassuringly. "This doesn't change who you are, Ni-ki. You're still our talented, hardworking maknae. We've got your back."
Jake placed a hand on his shoulder. "This isn't something you have to fight alone. We're your family."
Their words reassured Ni-ki, though the fear still lingered. He knew it wouldn't disappear overnight, but looking at the faces of his hyungs, he felt a flicker of hope. They wouldn't let him fall, not physically, and not emotionally.
As they left the hospital, armed with advice and prescriptions, the group promised to take extra care of their youngest member. Ni-ki wasn't just their teammate : he was family. And family stuck together, no matter what.
