The flu was spreading fast, and the managers of The Boyz decided it was time for all the members to get vaccinated. The announcement was made during a team meeting, and while most of the members took it in stride, Sunwoo's face fell immediately. He didn't say anything at first, but inside, a familiar wave of anxiety began to build.
Sunwoo had trypanophobia, a deep fear of needles, and just hearing the word "vaccine" sent a chill down his spine. Over the next few days, that fear grew like a shadow over him. He tried to distract himself by focusing on their rehearsals and schedules, but the thought of the upcoming shot was always lurking in the back of his mind.
At night, sleep became difficult. Sunwoo would lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, his heart racing at the mere thought of the needle. The darkness seemed to magnify his fear, making the upcoming day feel like a looming storm. He kept replaying scenarios in his head : what if he fainted? What if he couldn't go through with it? The thoughts spiraled, leaving him exhausted.
The day before the appointment, his anxiety was almost palpable. During lunch, Hyunjae noticed Sunwoo pushing his food around without eating much. "Hey, you okay?" Hyunjae asked, his tone gentle.
Sunwoo tried to muster a smile. "Yeah, just... not very hungry."
Hyunjae raised an eyebrow but didn't press further. Instead, he leaned over and whispered, "You know, if you're worried about tomorrow, you don't have to do it alone. We've got you."
Sunwoo's shoulders sagged slightly in relief at the words. "Thanks, hyung," he mumbled, though his voice was still tight with tension.
Younghoon joined them, noticing the quiet exchange. "We'll be right there with you," he added, squeezing Sunwoo's shoulder reassuringly. "We'll get through it together."
Despite their comforting words, Sunwoo couldn't shake off the nervous energy. That evening, the members gathered in the living room for a movie, but Sunwoo couldn't focus. His legs bounced nervously, and his hands fidgeted with the hem of his hoodie.
Hyunjae, sitting next to him, noticed. He reached over, placing a calming hand on Sunwoo's bouncing knee. "You're not alone in this," he reminded him softly. "We'll stick with you until it's over."
Sunwoo nodded, grateful but still consumed by his fear. "I just... I can't stop thinking about it," he admitted in a small voice.
"You don't have to fight it alone," Younghoon said, joining them. "We'll be there every step of the way."
That night, Hyunjae and Younghoon stayed up with Sunwoo, talking about anything and everything to distract him. They shared stories, joked around, and created a safe space for Sunwoo to express his fears without judgment.
As the morning of the appointment dawned, Sunwoo felt a knot in his stomach. The fear was still there, but so were Younghoon and Hyunjae, standing firmly by his side. Their presence, their quiet reassurances, were the anchors he needed to face the day ahead.
The group arrived at the doctor's office, bustling with energy, but Sunwoo's face was pale. Younghoon and Hyunjae stayed close by his side, offering quiet reassurances. They knew that Sunwoo was trying his best to keep calm, even though it was clearly overwhelming for him.
When it was time for the vaccinations, the members lined up, chatting casually to distract themselves. But Sunwoo's fear was different. He stayed in the waiting area with Younghoon and Hyunjae while the other members went in first. The doctor, understanding Sunwoo's fear, kindly offered them (Hyunjae and Younghoon to stay with Sunwoo for the vaccin.
As the doctor brought out the needles, Sunwoo's vision blurred, and he felt lightheaded. Hyunjae quickly noticed and pulled Sunwoo into a comforting embrace, tucking his head against his chest. Younghoon knelt beside them, holding Sunwoo's hand tightly. "It's okay, Sunwoo. We're here. You're doing great," Younghoon whispered, his voice soft and steady.
The other members peeked in from the doorway, each offering words of encouragement. "You can do this, Sunwoo!" Haknyeon cheered, and Juyeon gave a thumbs-up. Their support created a bubble of warmth around Sunwoo, helping him feel less alone.
The doctor approached with the needle, moving slowly and keeping Sunwoo informed at each step. "Just a little pinch, and it'll be over before you know it," the doctor said softly.
Sunwoo squeezed Hyunjae's shirt tightly, feeling the prick of the needle while nestled securely against Hyunjae's chest. His breath hitched, but he held on, his friends' voices grounding him. The shot was over in seconds, but for Sunwoo, it felt like a small victory.
Afterwards, Younghoon and Hyunjae didn't let go immediately, giving Sunwoo the time he needed to regain his composure. "You were so brave," Hyunjae praised, ruffling Sunwoo's hair affectionately. "See? You did it!"
"Thanks to you guys," Sunwoo murmured, his voice still shaky but filled with relief.
As they left the doctor's office, the rest of The Boyz surrounded Sunwoo, cheering for his bravery. The fear was still there, but so was the warmth of his members, making each step feel lighter. Younghoon and Hyunjae, especially, stayed close, their presence a constant reminder that he wasn't alone in facing his fears.
