The day started like any other for Enhypen. The practice room buzzed with energy as the members ran through their choreography, their reflections moving in sync with the mirrored walls. But for Jungwon, the usual rhythm felt heavier.
A dull ache had settled in his body since the night before, and his head throbbed faintly. He had brushed it off as fatigue; after all, they'd been practicing hard for their upcoming performances. But as the hours passed, the ache deepened, and every move felt like trudging through mud.
"Jungwon, you okay?" Sunoo asked during a break, his sharp eyes catching the subtle lag in Jungwon's movements.
Jungwon nodded quickly, forcing a smile. "I'm fine, just a little tired."
But Sunoo wasn't convinced, and neither were the others. Heeseung shot him a skeptical glance, and Jay raised an eyebrow. Still, Jungwon pushed on, leading the group through another round of practice.
By the third hour, though, it was impossible to hide. His steps were slower, his face pale, and he was breathing heavier than usual.
"Alright, that's enough." Jake's voice was firm as he walked over to Jungwon, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You're done for today."
Jungwon opened his mouth to protest, but Ni-ki quickly cut him off. "Hyung, you look like you're about to keel over. Let's go home."
"I can..."
"No, you can't." Sunghoon crossed his arms, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Leader or not, you're human. Let's go."
Before Jungwon could fight back, Heeseung slung an arm around his shoulders, steering him toward the door.
Back at the dorm, the members moved with a coordinated chaos that would've been funny if Jungwon wasn't feeling so miserable.
"Ni-ki, grab some blankets!" Sunoo called from the kitchen as he rummaged through the cabinets.
"I've got water," Jay announced, setting a glass on the coffee table in the living room.
Jake and Sunghoon helped Jungwon to the couch, propping him up with pillows. Heeseung knelt in front of him, pressing a hand to his forehead. "You're burning up. We need to cool you down."
"I'm fine, really," Jungwon muttered weakly.
"No, you're not," Jake said, gently pushing him back into the cushions. "So let us take care of you for once, okay?"
Jungwon sighed but didn't resist. He didn't have the energy to argue, and a part of him was touched by how quickly they'd mobilized to help him.
Sunoo appeared with a steaming bowl of soup, carefully balancing it as he set it down in front of Jungwon. "Eat this. You need to keep your strength up."
Jungwon managed a small smile as he took the bowl. "Thanks, Sunoo."
Meanwhile, Ni-ki returned with a mountain of blankets. "Is this enough?" he asked, grinning sheepishly.
"Perfect," Sunghoon said, taking a couple to drape over Jungwon.
As Jungwon ate, Heeseung sat beside him, keeping a steady hand on his back to make sure he didn't spill anything. Jay adjusted the thermostat, muttering about keeping the room warm enough, while Jake hovered nearby, ready to refill his water glass.
Despite the lingering fever and aches, Jungwon felt a warmth in his chest that had nothing to do with the blankets or soup.
Later that evening, the dorm was unusually quiet. Jungwon had been moved to his bed, where he lay propped up against a mountain of pillows. The other members had gathered around, sprawled across the floor and nearby chairs.
"Feeling any better?" Heeseung asked, his voice soft.
"A little," Jungwon admitted. "Thanks to you guys."
"You're always taking care of us," Jake said, grinning. "It's our turn to take care of you."
"Yeah," Ni-ki added, puffing out his chest. "You can't stop us, leader or not."
Jungwon chuckled weakly. "I'm lucky to have you guys."
"No," Sunoo said, his expression unusually serious. "We're the lucky ones. So don't push yourself too hard, okay? We need you."
Jungwon nodded, his eyes growing heavy as the warmth of his members' presence lulled him toward sleep. He drifted off with a small smile, feeling truly cared for in a way that made him realize being a leader didn't mean he had to carry everything alone.
In the quiet of the night, the members stayed close, their soft laughter and whispered conversations filling the room with a comforting sense of home.
