Joshua pulled his hoodie tighter around his face as he walked through the back streets of Seoul, the cold night air biting at his skin. It was getting to him...
The looks.
The whispers.
The hate.
He had been told to ignore it, to let it slide off his back like water on glass. "Don't let it get to you," they said. "It'll blow over like last time." But those words felt like lies now, empty reassurances to keep him functioning. Because no matter how much time passed, it never truly went away.
The dating scandal – the ridiculous, baseless rumor from last year – was back in full force, like a wound that refused to heal. Some new thread on a gossip forum, some old pictures misinterpreted, and suddenly it was as if the past twelve months of clarification and evidence meant nothing. The accusations were alive again, as ugly as before.
And the worst part? He had done nothing wrong.
Yet the public didn't care about the truth. They believed the media, the gossip, the lies... but not him. Never him.
The sound of a muffled laugh came from behind him, and Joshua's heart sank. Were they laughing at him? Were they even talking about him? He didn't know, but it didn't matter. His mind had already decided they were.
He clenched his fists in his jacket pockets, his nails digging into his palms. A bitter laugh escaped him. How had it come to this? How had he – someone who had once stood tall on stage, surrounded by cheers and love – ended up this way? Walking through empty streets at night, afraid of his own shadow.
It wasn't just the public. His reflection felt foreign to him now, his own thoughts became his harshest critics. He had started avoiding mirrors, not because he hated how he looked, but because he hated what he saw in his eyes: a tired, broken version of himself he didn't recognize.
The members had noticed. He could see it in their worried glances, hear it in the way they spoke to him, their voices softer than usual. "Are you eating enough?" Jeonghan had asked yesterday, sliding a plate of food toward him. Joshua had only nodded, forcing a small smile. He didn't have the heart to tell him that food didn't taste like anything anymore.
Sleep had become a luxury he couldn't afford. Lying in bed at night, staring at the ceiling, his mind was a battlefield. He replayed every hateful comment, every betrayal from fans who turned on him, every disappointed glance from his managers.
Was he a disappointment? Was it his fault this was happening again?
The spiral was fast and unforgiving.
He stopped walking when he reached the small park near the Han River, a place that had once brought him peace. The city lights danced on the rippling water, creating a strange contrast to the darkness inside him. He sat on the bench, his shoulders hunched, his head bowed.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, but he didn't bother checking it. He already knew what awaited – more messages from the members checking in on him, and more notifications filled with cruel words from faceless strangers.
He rubbed his hands together, trying to fend off the cold, but it was no use. The chill had settled deep into his bones, a numbness that wasn't just physical."You're useless."
"You're a liar."
"You should just leave the group."The words echoed in his head, each one sharper than the last. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to block them out, but they wouldn't stop. They never stopped.
He thought of the fans who still supported him, who told him to stay strong. He wanted to believe them, wanted to hold on to their words, but the hate drowned everything else out.
Tears blurred his vision, but he didn't bother wiping them away. What was the point? Out here, in the empty park, there was no one to see him break.
Of course I don't believe what I wrote, Joshua is incredible and so talented.
