900 words.Heeseung had always been the type to push through anything. Sore throat? Drink some warm tea. Headache? Take a deep breath and keep practicing. Fever? Just sweat it out. He had spent years training his body to endure, to keep going no matter what. That's why, when he first started feeling sick, he brushed it off like it was nothing.
It started as a dull headache in the morning, a bit of dizziness when he stood up too fast. Then came the chills, despite the warmth of the dorm. By the afternoon, his stomach was twisting uncomfortably, but they had schedules to follow, practice to complete, and he refused to be the weak link.
"Hyung, you okay?" Sunghoon asked, noticing Heeseung rubbing his temples during dance practice.
Heeseung quickly forced a smile. "Yeah, just a little tired."
The lie came easily, but Sunghoon wasn't convinced. However, before he could press further, the choreographer clapped his hands and called for another run-through of the routine. Heeseung took a deep breath and pushed himself forward, ignoring the way his vision blurred slightly with each step.
By the time they got back to the dorm, his whole body ached. He felt unbearably hot yet shivered at the same time. His stomach churned violently, but he clenched his jaw and forced himself to act normal. If he could just sleep it off, maybe it would be better by morning.
Heeseung skipped dinner, claiming he wasn't hungry, though his body felt weak with hunger. The others didn't question it too much—he sometimes ate later in the night when he wanted time alone. He shut himself in his room, hoping to sleep off whatever was wrecking him from the inside.
But in the middle of the night, the nausea won. He barely made it to the bathroom in time before he started retching into the toilet, gripping the edge of the bowl with trembling hands. His entire body shook, sweat clinging to his skin as wave after wave of sickness overtook him.
He was so out of it that he didn't hear the door creak open.
"Heeseung?" It was Jay's voice, heavy with sleep yet instantly alert when he saw the state his hyung was in. "Oh, shit...guys!"
Within seconds, footsteps rushed toward the bathroom. Heeseung felt a warm hand on his back, rubbing gentle circles as he coughed and gasped for breath. Someone else knelt beside him, pulling his damp hair back from his face.
"Heeseung, why didn't you say anything?" Jungwon asked, his voice laced with concern.
"I..I'm fine," Heeseung tried to say, but his voice came out hoarse and weak.
"Yeah, sure, because 'fine' people are definitely hunched over a toilet at three in the morning," Sunoo muttered, but his tone was light, trying to ease the worry in the air.
Sunghoon crouched next to him, pressing a hand to his forehead. His brows furrowed immediately. "You're burning up. You've been sick all day, haven't you?"
Heeseung didn't answer, too exhausted to argue.
Ni-ki appeared with a water bottle, unscrewing the cap before offering it to him. "Here, rinse your mouth."
Heeseung accepted it weakly, his hands shaking slightly as he took a small sip. It felt like too much effort just to move.
Jake sighed, glancing at the others. "We need to get him to bed. Someone grab a towel, he's drenched in sweat."
Jungwon disappeared for a moment and returned with a cool, damp cloth, pressing it gently to Heeseung's forehead. "We should've noticed earlier," he mumbled, guilt clear in his voice.
"Not your fault," Heeseung murmured, his eyes already half-closed.
"It kind of is," Sunghoon said. "We see you every day. We should've noticed something was wrong."
Jay huffed, slipping an arm around Heeseung's shoulders. "Okay, enough talking. Let's get him to bed first."
Together, they helped Heeseung to his feet. His legs wobbled beneath him, and for a moment, he thought he might collapse, but Ni-ki and Jake were right there, steadying him.
They settled him into his bed, layering blankets over him despite his protests. Jungwon placed the cool towel on his forehead, while Sunoo adjusted the pillows behind him.
"You don't have to..." Heeseung started, but Sunghoon cut him off with a glare.
"Shut up and let us take care of you."
For once, Heeseung didn't argue. He was too exhausted, too sick, and, truthfully, too touched by their concern.
Jake sat on the floor beside his bed, arms crossed. "We're staying here until you fall asleep."
"Don't be ridiculous..."
Jay shrugged, leaning against the wall. "Too bad. We're doing it anyway."
Ni-ki crawled onto the foot of Heeseung's bed, careful not to jostle him. "You always take care of us, hyung. Let us take care of you for once."
The words settled deep in Heeseung's heart, making his throat tighten—not from sickness, but from emotion. He had always been the one looking out for them, but now, as he lay surrounded by his members, he realized he didn't have to do everything alone.
"Thanks, guys," he murmured, already drifting off.
Jungwon adjusted the towel on his forehead. "Anytime, hyung."
As Heeseung slipped into sleep, the last thing he heard was the soft murmuring of his members, their quiet reassurances wrapping around him like a warm blanket.
He wasn't alone. He never had been.
