I N A Y A
"Assalamu'alaikum!" He greeted, a polite smile formed on his lips. It took me a second to realize that he was really here.
His gaze then shifted to Kaif Bhai as he spoke up, "Mr.Syed!" His hand shot out for a handshake and Kaif smiled, returning it as he spoke, "It's been long, Mr.Raza! I hope you're doing fine." They had a brief conversation before I called him in, asking him to come into the living area as I settled on one of the couches across from him.
It was quiet before Hassan decided to speak, "I met Asad uncle yesterday to discuss a project, but then he told me you're the one who is handling it... So I decided to go to the Qureshi mansion today but the guards there told me to come some other day before I met Mr. Rayan Qureshi there... He then brought me here knowing that I am your friend and business partner!"
I pursed my lips into a line, understanding everything now. "Oh! I see.. How are you doing by the way?" I asked simply and he answered, "Hmm fine! What about you? Also where is Mr.Qureshi?"
I wetted my lips, staying composed as I replied, "I'm good... Ahad is out for some work!"
That earned me a look from Kaif Bhai which I ignored royally.
"Oh! How is he doing?" He asked again, "I heard there was an attack on the mansion, so I thought of coming as I had to discuss something and check on you too..."
"That's really so thoughtful of you... Alhamdulillah, no one was hurt and it's all under control now." He hummed thoughtfully, his gaze meeting Kaif's as he spoke, "You can reach out to me if you need any legal assistance, I have got connections."
I smiled, nodding my head. "Of course, Hassan!"
He handed over the file to me and I looked through it. It was a plan laid out for a joint venture for the construction of motels and resorts.
I looked at him, raising a brow as I held the file up. "What is this?"
"Take your time, read it carefully, we can keep a delegation once you agree and discuss further!" He explained and I looked at him before flipping through the pages again.
Last time, when we had met in Manali, he had told me he wanted to sign a deal soon. Not just because of our efficient business but as a token of years of friendship. And how could I even deny, he had been there when no one else was. Even when Salman had isolated me because his mother said to do so, it was only Hassan and Ananya that were there.
And how could I forget those who stayed and left me in my hardships?
I looked up at him who was now sipping the tea simply. I smiled, keeping the file aside as I spoke, "I'll tell you after two weeks! I hope you understand because I've got other matters to attend to!"
"Sure! No issues, I was leaving for Manali tomorrow so I decided to finish this conversation before I go... Also, sorry for showing up uninformed!" He said genuinely and I chuckled, facepalming as I scolded him, "Idiot! Why're you being so formal? We haven't signed the deal yet!"
He laughed, standing up to leave. "Okay then! I'll be here next month, let's discuss it then?"
"Sure!" I grinned, waving him a goodbye as he left.
And the moment I turned, Kaif Bhai was already in front of me, his hands folded on his chest and shooting me a look that said, 'you might give me some explanation', obviously regarding lying about Ahad.
"Are you meeting him behind Ahad's back?" He asked, his eyes wide and I rolled my eyes, walking away. "Bhabhi! I won't let you betray him!!" He yelled again, stifling a chuckle clearly.
