'How're you, Hassan?'
'You?'
'It's nice meeting you again.'
I smashed the glass to the wall in front. Her voice, eyes and words repeated in a loop, moving in a symphony of a madness that went beyond my control.
I pushed the chair back as I stood, her name a murmur under my breath as I paced, "Inaya. Inaya. Inaya..."
Her deep grey eyes.
Her smile, laughter and her excitement when she'd talk about something she loved.
She was mine. She was meant to be mine since the very moment I had found her running around in that isolated building.
We were barely twelve years old.
But I knew she belonged to me. She still does.
A knock echoed, interrupting my train of thoughts.
I hummed once, loud and clear. The door opened swiftly and one of my workers stepped in, a phone in hand, head lowered in fear.
I loved that fear in their eyes when they'd not dare meet my gaze.
"Speak."
"Mr. Sheikh wishes to talk to you." He spoke quietly, forwarding the phone to me. I took it, flicking a finger for him to leave.
"Yes, father."
Hating this man would be an understatement. If there's one thing I'd be grateful to Asad Khan for, it is for setting the mansion on fire and paralysing Haamid.
I was met with a series of profanities, followed by a growl, "Do you know what's happening?"
"I do."
I twirled the wine calmly, my gaze fixed on the wall in front. Hamid's voice was bitter, laced with fury as he snarled, "What're you doing then? The auditors are refusing to cover for us, the stakeholders are pulling out one by one. This is a planned destruction!"
He went on, explaining everything I was already aware of.
"You started the war." I spat.
What had he expected? He'd do it all and they would sit quiet and enjoy his filthy blood game?
His voice rose. "We're not discussing this again."
I scoffed, the voice echoing off the closed walls as I gritted out, "Pathetic!"
But I started anyhow, "You wanted her mother killed, father."
Silence.
"You took from me whatever I once called home, father."
Silence.
I leaned back. "You framed and defamed the Qureshi."
Bloody pathetic silence.
"You made me and Umair stay with people we barely knew. Then kept me hidden, to use me as the pawn when the need arises."
He started, "Min-" I snapped, "You better not tell me to mind my words, father. You've always chosen yourself and the thrill of power over me." My voice dripped with taunt, laced in malice.
