A H A D

The next day;

Status - Dead.

I had been staring at the same words for the past fifteen minutes. Ahmed had extracted the printed form of document from the hospital data.

The mother of my wife. The one to bring her to life had died ten years ago. No fault, no interruptions, no hints.

There was not a single clue left behind.

My gaze trailed downwards.

Reason - Road accident, respiratory collapse and cardiac arrest.

I flipped the pages further, moving to the post-mortem report which was surprisingly never revealed.

Drug/s found in blood - OD256

"Bhai! It says the manufacture of this drug was banned around five years ago." Asim spoke from the far end of the table. He had returned yesterday. Kaif was beside him, working on something related to the office, his attention solely dedicated to the reviewing.

"Yes! But it still is being manufactured, exported and sold... Amra did send the details about it, it says its overdose can cause severe nerve damage or even collapse, then lead to coma or death if the person is already weak!"

A thoughtful expression settled on his face as he hummed. Before he could say anything, my phone on the table buzzed with an incoming call.

Himansh.

I didn't know he'd figure things out in just a day.

Blood rushed to my head with dread, the mere thought of finding out who was behind this all forced my nerves to settle on an edge. I inhaled sharply, gesturing to Ahmed to connect the voice modulator before I received the call.

"Yes?" I started, my tone flat.

"The middlemen you told me to contact are dead."

Silence. Thick, cold silence enveloped the room like a suffocating blanket.

"Both of them?" I forced my voice out.

"Yes. But we found a clue."

Freaking finally. A clue. That was more than getting no idea at least.

"Speak."

"There's a carved mark on the bodies. Something like a snake around a pole."

I froze, my eyes refusing to blink as I stared at the picture that lay scattered amidst the other papers. The tattoo, the pen cap in Hassan's pocket.

"Mark of what size?"

"Approximately two inches. It's on the forehead." He explained.

Shit!

"More accurately, the size of a pen's cap?" I held my breath.

"Yes."

My mind blanked, then roared to life and my lungs felt like the air was being sucked out of the room slowly. My brain cluttered with all the possibilities.

Could it be him?

But it could be someone else and Hassan could just be a pawn too... maybe every person he appoints is given that pen as a symbol and weapon in one.

"Send me a video recording of the place where you found the bodies." I spoke, my tone flat and unrecognizable, successfully hiding the boiling rage as the modulator blinked.
