I N A Y A

The Iftar get-together was in full swing. Zara and Kaif had been here. Laughter felt non-stop, endless talks and teasing passed across the table.

And now, I was back in our room, stepping out of the shower, my hair tied in a towel as I wore a loose brown nightgown. I stepped out of the closet, letting my damp hair flow down as I drew the towel slowly through them.

Ahad was on the bed, speaking on the phone, discussing something related to his work. I shot him a loving smile, laughing when he glitched in his statement for a brief second.

He glared at me, then focused back on the call. The smile never faded from my face as I blow-dried my hair.

Zara was downstairs, talking to Mom about something she called ‘important.’ The rest of the guys were somewhere around.

Tonight was the first one of the five blessed nights of Ramadan. The alternate nights (Laylat-ul-Qadr) which were to be spent entirely in worship. And that was why the Taraveeh would begin two hours late today.

I looked at Ahad again, still busy on the call as he checked through the laptop balanced on his lap. I walked closer, directing the dryer to his face just to annoy him.

Well, obviously, he grabbed me closer. I'd celebrate the day I'd annoy this man and be able to escape.

I stood just against the bed when he hung up on the phone call. He looked up, eyes lazy with that knowing smugness as he started, “So… trying to do what?”

I looked away towards the balcony, trying to act stern as I mumbled, “What? Nothing.”

His arm slid around my waist as he made me sit on his lap swiftly. I gasped, blinking before my head snapped towards him. He grinned simply, resting his chin on my shoulder as he made me look at the screen.

“Choose a design,” He whispered, urging my gaze to drift to the screen in front.

I was mesmerized for a long moment. The designs were immaculate, beautiful, and exactly how I preferred. I tilted my face to look at him, widening my eyes before asking, “You got them designed?”

He nodded once, smiling. “I designed them, you choose and we'll get them ready. You were having trouble right? So, think I just shortlisted them for you.”

A giggle escaped me before I knew it, my arms wrapping around his neck as I pressed a kiss to his lips, mumbling, “Thank you, Mr. Husband.”

He smiled, the sight so beautiful that I'd watch it for a lifetime with no complaints.

My thumb grazed the light stubble on his jaw, voice low as I teased, “My personal fashion designer?”

He hummed, the voice a smile in itself. “If that makes you happy.”

I nodded in exaggeration, pulling away to look at him properly, my heart melting at the mere beauty of this idiot husband of mine. “Maybe that was why I never understood fashion much, this was my destiny.”

He chuckled at that, the voice a soothing caress to my soul. “Exactly.” He nudged his nose against mine, our laughter mingling as it filled the room.

We just stayed like that for a while, breathing into each other's embrace like the safest place in this world. It indeed was.

Soon, a knock disturbed us. I sighed, smiling at the face Ahad had made. Pressing a quick kiss to his forehead, I told him to get up and change as he was still in his office attire.

He agreed grumpily, walking into the closet while I opened the door.

Sasha stood there, looking up when she saw me. I stepped aside to let her in but she didn't, saying, “Dad is calling Ahad Bhai.”
