A H A D
"I want a Divorce".
The words pierced through the chilling silence, the only voices audible were the soft patters of snow and my ragged breaths as I stumbled backwards. It was like the mere words had landed on me a physical blow. She slouched down and sat on her knees, facing away from me.
When I stayed silent, she spoke, "I'm nothing more than a burden Ahad. With me, all you'll ever feel is pain and anguish. I was the reason my mother was killed, I'm the reason Dad is always on a high alert. I'm the reason, that man will hurt you someday".
Her voice wavered, but she continued, "Things never go the good way with me. They never have. I'll never be able to give you and your family the love and care you deserve. You deserve someone better than me Ahad".
That was it.
I walked to her silently, the sound of my faint footsteps echoing around. I kneeled down infront of her, lifting her chin and making her look at me.
I whispered, "Abhi bol diya hai, dobara mat bolna". My tone laced with primal obsession.
(You have said it this time, never ever say it again)
"But that's true..." her voice broke, as if uttering these words was the most difficult task for her, "It's true that you deserve someone who will love you. My heart is not whole, it is scattered into millions of pieces. . .You deserve someone who will smile, talk and laugh with you, someone who will love you with all of her existence, who will hold you as her first priority, who will take care of you". Tears rolled down her eyes and I stared at her speechless.
This can't be Inaya! No! This is not her..
But she looked up at me, her demeanor hardening the very next second as she stood up, fisting her hands and glaring deep into my eyes. Those grey orbs were menacingly empty. When I tried to reach out, she swatted my hands away.
"And you know what? I married you for my own selfish reasons, because I knew you had many connections worldwide and this marriage would bring many deals to my doorstep and it did. I wanted to pull out informations that I could only get through you, and now I'm done". She yelled, her face flushed with anger and the attempt to hold back tears.
My bitter laugh echoed around the room, the voice only adding up to the growing gravity of the situation. She stood silently, looking at me, her eyebrows knitted in confusion. Her cheeks had the dried stains of tears, a witness of her agony.
I grabbed her arm and yanked her closer to my chest, "You really think this can make me hate you?" I growled, my tone a mix of menace, while my eyes were filled with tears. The tears I only noticed when one of them escaped.
"See! All I do is hurt you". She whispered, wiping a tear away from my face.
I chuckled again, pulling her more closer, "We're much more than this Mrs.Qureshi! We're much more than these false words of yours, much more than two packs of flesh and bones in a marriage". I whispered near her ear, her hold on my arm tightening.
She gasped and looked at me agape, "Why don't you believe me Ahad? When I'm confessing it myself?" She almost screamed and I placed my index finger on her lips, "Sshh! Not a word more>" I warned, glaring at her intensely.
"What did you say? You want a Divorce hmm? If it had been someone else, attempting to separate us, I swear they'd have been lying here lifeless the very next moment". I seethed, anger flaring through my every cell. She stood there motionless, her gaze meeting mine with the same ferocity.
