A S I M

The next day, in Italy,

The basement smelled of cold blood.

I stood leaning against the wall, watching with a smug smirk as the men tied Hassan and Haamid to the metal chairs in separate cells.

There was a wicked satisfaction of watching the enemy crumble, to see the fear in their eyes when they had dared to hurt what belonged to you.

Ahad Bhai and others had reached this morning, and were resting for a while now after lunch with us.

I turned when the faint voices of clicking of heels echoed from behind me. I frowned, wondering who was here now when I had clearly denied any disturbances here.

Turning around, I froze when I saw her.

Amra?

What on Earth was she doing here?

I walked over instantly, asking, "What are you doing here?"

Her face remained blank, her words sharp and straight when she replied, "My boss was Haamid's old partner in business. He was here for some reason so I came along."

"Your boss?" I asked in disbelief.

Why would a doctor have a boss who's involved with... Haamid?

"I can't give you more details."

She walked past me, startling me as I turned to follow her instantly. She entered the room, grabbed Haamid's hair before slamming his head back against the chair.

"Where is he?" She snarled, making my hair stand in alertness.

"W-who?" Haamid barely breathed, his eyes wide as they looked at her. She snapped his head back harder, my eyes narrowing when she pulled a gun out of her waistband swiftly, pointing it to his throat.

"Amra," I roared, already walking over, hovering near her.

Her eyes were dark and furious as she stared at me. I stood my ground, whispering, "What is it that you want to know?"

"What sedatives did you give to him?" She pulled the gun back, then turned to face me.

I blinked, shrugging. "Ahad Bhai might know, they brought him here this morning from Washington."

She muttered a curse under her breath, adjusting the lapels of her hijab once. Turning to him again, she lifted his chin with the gun ruthlessly, asking, voice sharper now, "Recall, where did Salvatore tell you he has kept him?"

Salvatore?

Who was she speaking of?

I frowned, my eyes widening when she kicked on the clearly visible gunshot wound on his knee with her pencil heel. Haamid grunted, barely lifeless as his head kept falling to the sides.

Walking back to me, her jaw was impossibly tight as she hissed, "No one should know that I came here. Not even Ahad Bhai or Inaya ma'am. And this better remain between us."

I narrowed my eyes, biting the inside of my mouth.

Who did she think she was ordering like that?

"Wait a minute," I drawled, my boots clicking as I walked over and faced her. "What makes you think you can order around the place like that?"
