A U T H O R
TWO DAYS LATER;
The faint murmur of the employees dulled into silence when the main door of the office premises swung open. The receptionist looked up, straightening her posture as she smiled. "Good morning, ma'am!"
Inaya nodded her head curtly, murmuring a morning as she walked past the desk. Everyone greeted her once before getting back to their work.
Her face was masked with the practiced indifference, but something dangerously calm had taken over it today. Her steps were calculated, gaze roaming around with the precision of a hawk.
"Raza?" She asked her assistant as soon as they stepped on the last floor. The assistant handed her her schedule, nodding as she said, "Ma'am he's in the conference room, waiting for you!"
The stage one: One-on-one discussion.
Her shoes tapped against the polished white floor, the blue Abaya fluttering as she stepped into the room.
The conference room was bathed into bright white lights, the windows open, letting the sunlight filter inside. Hassan was seated on one of the chairs, his gaze lifting up to see her as she entered.
He wore a polite smile, standing up in courtesy. "Well! On time as always!"
The clock read 8:58 AM.
"Of course!" She smiled back, taking a seat across from him.
Hassan looked up occasionally as she browsed through the documents, her gaze fixed on the paperwork.
"You seem a little off today... Fought with your husband?" Hassan spoke up, his tone dripping with playful tease.
Inaya's eyes lifted, watching him for a moment as she said, "Can we not talk about him?"
He frowned, leaning in a little as he asked, "How's this deal gonna profit then?"
She looked up again, confused and mildly irritated as she raised a brow in question. Hassan cleared his throat, sitting straighter as he answered, "Business together works with co-ordination... We can't let any personal disputes interfere here, right?"
She just hummed, her voice low as she spoke, "You don't have to worry about our disputes.. It won't affect this deal!"
"Inaya!" He called out again, softer this time.
She inhaled a sharp breath, relaxing her shoulders as she looked up. He tilted his head a little, studying her quietly as he asked, "Does this happen often?"
Her brows drew into a frown, lashes blinking as she nodded her head before getting back to work again. "It's nothing, Hassan! Relax!"
"Inu!" He clicked his tongue, shifting slightly as he started, "You know you can talk to me if it's something!"
Her eyes glistened, slightly moist as she met his gaze. She gulped, rubbing her eyes once as she said, "It's just too complicated... You won't understand!"
He frowned, closing the file and taking it from her hand as he asked, "Is it about him?"
She nodded meekly, her gaze dropping down to her fingers in her lap. Hassan's attention sharpened as he asked, "What is it?"
"He's just too much sometimes... It gets suffocating!"
He blinked, his tone softening. "I didn't understand this wedding in the first place... I thought you never wanted to marry after Aunt Samra's demise.."
