I N A Y A

I rolled my eyes with a small chuckle when Zara walked out, rambling about how she'd make sure I had all of her handmade soup.

It was my dinner time, and it couldn't be delayed. Or else, these people had pledged to not leave me alone even for a second.

Turning to the bedside table, I picked my laptop up before placing it on my lap.

The business was being affected badly with everything that was happening.

The clips of Tanya's blame on Ahad were still circulating on the internet. Even few of my investors were questioning if this emotional instability would affect our efficiency.

I shrugged the thoughts away, checking through my mails with stark attention.

I heard the door click shut. Thinking Zara had returned already, I looked up absentmindedly only to freeze.

A man stood near the door, dressed entirely in black with a gun pointed directly at me.

What the...

I blinked once, wondering if this was real. But as the person advanced toward me, my heart raced, palms already sweating as I reached for my phone slowly.

I bit back a curse when I realised my phone had been on the couch when Zara was doing something on it.

I swallowed, my chest heaving as my body forgot how to function entirely.

The stranger advanced closer now, and lifted the weapon slightly higher-A silent warning to not move or scream as he shook his head slowly.

My pulse slammed, fingers trembling as they clutched the sheets tightly.

Allah ji, what was this again?

Every instinct inside me begged me to panic, to move, to shout for Ahad-but terror had already frozen me into place.

What if he'd do something reckless. He was the only holding weapon after all. And panicking right now would get me killed. Or worse-get someone else hurt.

My gaze shifted to the door. The man had locked it from the inside.

And Zara would take a long time to prepare the herbal soup like she always did.

I forced myself to inhale slowly despite the way my stitches burned from the sudden tension in my body.

Breathe, there has to be a way.

My gaze drifted down to my laptop. There was no immediate signal I could send through this. Then to the emergency switch near the bedside table-Also too far.

Think.

Think, Inaya.

His movements were calm and calculated as he stopped near the edge of my bed, the weapon never lowering once. His free hand reached upward slowly and I frowned when he removed the mask covering his face.
