A H A D
"You should've seen his face on the wedding day," Dad said, laughing loudly, followed by Asad Uncle, Inaya and the others.
They were basically narrating our wedding story to Mumma.
"Mumma, you know, Dad literally threatened me to marry Ahad. He said he'd make all of my shareholders pull away if I refused," Inaya explained, making Mumma throw a glare toward Uncle as she snapped, "That was not how I wanted you to convince her."
"She didn't leave me any other way," Uncle murmured in his defence, earning another round of combined laughter.
"Bhai was literally a ticking bomb those days," Asim said, returning to sipping his coffee innocently.
I almost laughed recalling those days. I was indeed ready to burst out on anyone who spoke of my wedding.
And here I was now, struggling to even breathe in her absence. Massive progress.
The entire living hall was filled. We had woken up late, had breakfast and sat together. Kaif and Zara had left for their mansion.
Sasha caught my eye as she walked over and sat beside me. I smiled at her, raising my brows when she leaned in and said, "I need to know something."
"Hmm?"
"Why didn't I know about everything that was happening? Didn't you trust me?" She asked, her face so soft like she could cry any second.
I smiled simply, caressing her head once as I replied, "We needed to keep as many people as we could out of this. And especially you, because you were each of our favorites, we couldn't risk him seeing you as our weakness. You know what happened that one time he got to you, right?"
She nodded thoughtfully. "Hmm, I was just scared and confused about what was happening. And when I found out, I didn't know how to react."
I smiled at her reassuringly. "Don't worry, it's all sorted now, and it'll be over soon."
And once the conversation with her was over, I recalled that the meeting with Umair had to be held before the first hearing in the court, which was on the day-after-tomorrow.
"Ahmed?" I called out, rolling my eyes when I found he was busy showing Inaya something on his phone. She was sitting between him and Mumma, watching enthusiastically as he showed her God knows what.
Sasha patted at his knee, getting his attention before she gestured to me. He asked with a nod and I spoke up, "Call Umair to meet us in the evening."
"Oh, okay. Does he need to bring anything?"
I thought for a second before replying, "Yeah, tell him to bring the evidence he said he has. Let's see then."
"Who's he?" I heard Sasha ask, catching my attention as I watched her quietly for a long moment. I then answered simply, "Hassan's brother."
Her palm flew to her mouth as a sharp gasp escaped her. "Isn't he dangerous then? Why're you calling him over?"
Too bad at acting. Or was I just too good at seeing through?
I bit back a smile. "He is on our side."
She nodded before relaxing against the couches as she busied herself with something on her phone. The elders were busy talking while Inaya now remained engrossed with Kinza.
Everyone was getting my wife's attention except me. The day passed on like that. I had excused myself almost an hour ago to take some business calls.
I was in my home office, busy sorting some files before I felt a pair of soft hands cover my eyes from behind. I resisted the urge to smile as I mumbled, "Ina, I'm in the middle of something."
