Chapter 58 - Smitten Pt. 5

Kelly and Velvet are still on either side of Caleb's bed, when he starts stirring, opening his eyes. 

Kelly: Big brother? 

He lets out a grunt as he sits up. 

Caleb: Hey, sis...

Kelly hugs him. 

Kelly: How are you feeling after using your semblance like that?

She retracts from him. 

Caleb: Well... still exhausted, but nothing other than that. 

Kelly smiles at him before glancing over at Velvet. 

Kelly: I'm... gonna let you two have some alone time. 

She gets up and leaves the room. 

He looks at Velvet, who immediately kisses him. He's caught off guard for a brief second before sinking into it.  

She slowly pulls away from him. 

Velvet: You had me so worried at first... 

Caleb: At first?

Velvet: I learned what your semblance is from Ozpin. 

He nods. 

Caleb: And that made you less worried?

Velvet: Only kind of. I don't this happening again if Cardin tries doing what he did before. 

Her grip on his hand slightly tightens as he lets out a sigh. 

Caleb: Vel, you won't have to worry about that. I haven't had much practice with it, but the idea is that it'll stop completely draining me the more I use it. 

He then realizes something as he smiles. 

Caleb: Guess Cardin and his team would finally be useful for something, huh?

Velvet lets out a slight laugh. 

Velvet: That's a good way of looking at it. But we won't have to worry about them for a while, it seems. 

Caleb: Why's that?

Velvet: Well, they're somewhere else right now. Probably somewhere far away from here. They're apparently getting their own special type of care. 

He nods. 

Caleb: And I hope they stay away. Things are much better without them here. Much safer for everybody else, too. 

He smiles at her, reaching up to caress her cheek. 

That's when Mark comes rushing in, followed by team RWBY. Kelly comes following in after them. 

Mark: I'm not sure if you're gonna like coming out of this room. 

Caleb: Why's that?

Mark: Well, word kind of got around fast. And everybody is celebrating what you did to team CRDL. 

Caleb: Really? 

Yang: Absolutely. Unsurprisingly, nobody here likes them. There's even a petition going around the school to keep them away. 

Blake: One that Ozpin isn't likely to ignore. At least, we can hope. 

Caleb lets out a laugh. 

Weiss: We got a good view of the hallway when we were on the way. How are you feeling?

Caleb: Fine. 

Ruby: Are you sure? Because whatever you did, it seemed big. 

Caleb: Yes, I'm sure. It's just my family's semblance. I admittedly haven't had good practice with it yet. 

She nods. 

Kelly: Hey... You good enough to walk? Team JNPR left with Coco to the cafeteria. They didn't want to overwhelm you. 

Caleb: Yeah, I should be. Let's get going. 

Inside of the cafeteria, team JNPR are sitting at a table with Coco, when Caleb comes walking in with the others. 

Nora: Thank goodness! It's so good to see you up and about! 

Ren: Yes. We didn't quite know what to think when we heard what happened. 

Pyrrha: It was quite the feat, though. One that I hope you recover from well.

Jaune: Yeah, no kidding. If you need anything, just let us know. 

Coco: Absolutely. You did this academy a service by getting rid of those savages. I'd say a proper celebration is in order. 

Caleb: That's not necessary. 

Coco: Well, I think it is. And I'm sure everybody else is in agreeance. 

Velvet hooks onto his arm and gives him a nod. Everybody else follows, nodding along. 

A couple of hours later, more students have piled into the cafeteria. All laughing and joking around with each other. The occasional chant for Caleb can be heard while Mark is watching from a chair off to the side. 

Yang comes walking over, sitting down next to him. 

Yang: This could go on for a while. Nobody seems like they're close to stopping. 

Mark: I don't blame a single one of them. I'm just wondering how Ozpin is going to get us to go back to classes after this. This is going to be the talk of the school. 

Yang smiles and nods, looking over at Caleb and Velvet.

Yang: I wouldn't be surprised if they're crowned King and Queen of the school at this point. 

Mark: It would be pretty fitting. They'd deserve it. 

Yang: They absolutely do. But knowing this school, something else will happen that'll challenge them on that. 

Mark: Yeah? Like what?

She looks back at him with the smile still on her face. 

Yang: Hmm... I don't know. Maybe the formation of a new power couple?

He smiles at her. 

Mark: Is this your official confession? 

Yang: And if it were...?

Mark: Then I'd have to agree. 

He holds her hand. 

Mark: How about we go out somewhere later this week?

Yang: I'd love that. 

She leans her head on his shoulder as they both look back out at the celebration.
