It was a rainy, dreary day in the small town of Littleton, Colorado. Of course, a little rain wouldn't be a problem for Ross and Maxine. The two six-year-olds were never ones who sat still. Ever.

Today, they decided to play 'house' in the basement and let their imaginations run wild.

"Hey Maxie. Mommy made cookies. We gotta hurry before the others beat us to them."

"Ewww. Don't call me 'Maxie'."

The little, blonde-haired boy giggled. "But it's funny cuz you always get mad when I call you 'Maxie' and it's funny."

"No it's not." She laughed.

"But let's go. The cookies are gonna disappear soon."

"Ooooh!" The little girl squealed. "Are they chocolate chip cookies?"

"Yeah. They are are."

The two children ran through the halls with excitement.

"Mommy? Can we have some cookies, please?"

"Of course, Son." She beamed. "Why don't you and Maxine take a seat at the table and I'll bring them to you."

The two best friends sat at the table, enjoying their cookies and each other's company. Neither of them had a single worry and both of them were carefree and at peace with all.

Of course, good times don't last forever but thankfully, neither do bad times.

Maxine's POV

I took another sip of my coffee and enjoyed the silence and peace of the house. It was early enough in the morning so watch the last of the sunset and I stared through the window in awe. All the creation outside was slowly waking up and birds began to sing to each other. The peaceful serenity was enough to put me back to sleep.

The side door swung open, startling me. I nearly spilled my hot drink all over myself. Suddenly, the peace was interrupted.

Ross practically ran over to me and hugged me extremely tight.

Almost spilling my drink for the second time, I put it down so I could hug him properly.

"You ready?" He asked.

"Do I look ready?" I gestured to myself. "I'm in my pajamas."

"Yeah, you look ready. Ready for action." Ross laughed, and posed dramatically.

"You're ridiculous." I giggled. "Be right back."

I picked out my outfit for the day and inspected it. I had a black and white sixties band tee, dark wash denim shorts, low-top black Converse, and a daisy flower crown. I got dressed, put on some casual jewelry, and packed my bag. I stuck everything in my black backpack that had little white dinosaurs on it. I glanced on last time in the mirror before walking out of my room and running down the stairs. http://www.polyvore.com/summer_is_state_mind/set?id=176114480

Ross looked up from his phone. "You ready now?"

"Ready for action." I mimicked his pose from before.

"Heeeyyyyyyy." He whined. "That's my thing."

I narrowed my eyes. "Umm. I'm pretty sure it's a superhero thing..."

"So you're saying I'm not a superhero?"

"No, no, no. Of course you are." I rolled my eyes. "You're like the best superhero ever. You've done so much to save the world, keep people out of danger, and protect the lives of sweet, elderly people."
