Corina's POV
Ahh. California. Breeze in my hair, board under my feet, shades on my face, and the warm, salty air.
I was raised on the lovely shores of SoCal (South Cali). In fact I was literally born on the beach...but that's another funny story for another time.
I was skating down the sidewalk that was parallel to the seashore. I skated past my favorite milkshake shack and decided not to go there today. I was intent on making it to my favorite spot on the beach. I loved the ocean and sitting in solitude, listening to the waves crash against the shore was one of my most favorite things ever.
I took my skateboard in my hand, kicked off my shoes, and scammed across the hot sand. I stood there, losing track of time and place. It could have been hours that I hung out alone daydreaming.
A shrill voice interrupted my thought process. I turned around to see Claire and her posse. Whenever Claire approached me, it was always grey cloudy skies from then on. She never liked me and I had yet to find out why.
"Look girls. It's Dolly Daydream." They all snickered like the mean girls in movies. I sometimes wished it was a movie. A movie I could rewind or stop, and pause at the perfect time; before Claire was even a part of my life.
"I can't believe I'm saying this but you're invited to my summer solstice party tomorrow night."
"I don't want to come." I replied silently. "Thanks though."
The girls exchanged looks before Claire shot me an evil glare.
"You know I can make your life a living nightmare. You've experienced it before so why not make this easy and do as I say." She threatened. "You either come or you'll regret it forever."
I sighed as she walked away. Guess I better find something to wear for this special bash she's throwing.

The night of the party, I arrived at Claire's enormous house with knots in my stomach. I immediately found a safe place to sit alone and under the radar.
A tall blonde dude sat on the couch next to me and I felt my cheeks heat up.

"No Corina. Relax. You can NOT blush. He's not even cute and he doesn't even want to talk to you." I told myself.
"You seem a bit lonely. Mind if I sit with you?" He asked.

"And he's talking to me! He's acknowledging my presence. Oh. My. Goodness. Calm down. You don't even know his name."

"No I don't mind." I smiled.
"What's your name?" He asked curiously.
"Corina. What's yours?"
"Ross." He smiled again and that's when I noticed he had adorable dimples.
He looked straight into my eyes as if they were telling him something. "You don't really wanna be here, do you?"
I hung my head down in shame. "No. Not at all."
"Aww. I'm so sorry. You can stick with me if you want. I don't really wanna be here either."
"We can be the Unsocial Unicorns."
Ross giggled. "The Unsocial Unicorns. I like that."
We sat and talked for awhile until Claire took over. She had a loud microphone and was demanding everyone's attention.
All eyes were on her, much to her desire.
Ross abruptly stuck out his hand and took my hand in his as if he was scared of her. I looked down at our interlocked fingers but I didn't resist even if I had only met him moments ago.
Claire began runnin' her little show and going on about the next activity. I kinda zoned out though. "We're going to have a super fun paint war outside and I want everyone to.....blah blah blah...."
She was boring me to death. Everyone migrated outside and were handed waterguns full of paint. At least I assumed that was what was in those large buckets. I looked around for Ross but couldn't find him. Trying to get away from the game, I backed away but unfortunately, I hacked right into Claire.
"Where are you going?" She asked in a fake sweet tone.
"Umm....I-I-I uh...umm...I don't-I don't know...." I stammered.
"Alright. Get her guys!"
Before I knew it, I was covered in a sticky substance. I was doused from head to toe in black wall paint. Every guest at that stupid party had it out for me and I was left defenseless and ashamed. I wanted to fall asleep and drift off to a Claire-less world. My wish came true because I could slowly feel myself falling. However, someone caught me and I knew just who it was...
