Leilani's POV
I paddled out to the rushing water and took a duck dive under the waves. Turning around to face the shore, I stood up on my surfboard and rode the wave. After an exhilarating rush from the sea to the sand, I dropped my board and sat on my towel. I'd been surfing ever since I could walk and I was now a competitive surfer.
I was chilling on my towel trying to catch my breath and sippin' on my CapriSun juice. I reached to grab another towel and dried myself off. I got a bit carried away and some kind of "Towel Drying Dance."
I was turning around and there stood my favorite blondie. I let out a shriek threw my towel over my head...even though it didn't hide me at all.
"How long have you been standing there Ross?" I asked laughing.
"Long enough to know that you need to never dance like that in public."
"You're so mean." I stuck my tongue out.
"And you dance like a pregnant moose that's on fire."
I laughed and then put on a straight face. "Was it really that bad?"
"No. No. No. Not at all." Ross was biting his lip to keep from laughing.
Rolling my eyes, I sat down and buried my toes in the warm sand.
I looked over at Ross. He was on his phone.
"What on earth? Who uses their phone at the beach...I mean other than taking pictures...Bruh, put that away, Dude."

He looked up at me. "I think I left my phone at home so I'm texting my mommy."

"Rossy." I laughed. "You're using your phone right now."
"Oh..."
"You're the weirdest. You know that?"
He raised an eyebrow. "This coming from a weirdo herself?"
"Of course. We weird ones must stick together."

I smiled to myself and looked out at the crashing waves. Ross and I had been friends since he was six and I was four. I wasn't very good at making friends and Ross welcomed me with open arms. I was crushed when I found that he was moving from Colorado to California. A few months later, I also moved from Littleton, CO to Northridge, CA and we're still best friends.

"How about we catch some waves?" Ross suggested.
"Let's do it."
We spent the rest of the day surfing and just enjoying each other's company.
