Megan’s POV

Ahhh. Back in California. I was so happy to be home. It was calm and peaceful here. I was gonna board at on the sidewalk along the beach. The weather was glorious at the moment but I could see storm clouds creeping in. I ignored the threatening rainstorm and boarded to my heart’s content. A few raindrops fell from the sky and eventually, it was pouring with rain. I hopped off my board and decided to walk home. I simply wished that the sun would come back out but I knew I had to head home before my parents freaked out. I was walking but picked up the pace because I couldn’t wait to get home.
I walked past a guy who reminded me of Blondie from Texas. I did a double take but kept walking. Blondie wouldn’t be here…or maybe he could…
He turned around and caught me looking at him. He smiled a little before walking towards me. Oh dear.
“Hey.” He grinned. “Funny seeing you here.”
“Hi…and yeah I live here.”
“Me too.”
“Oh. Then why were you in Texas.”
“My band was touring so yeah…” He trailed off awkwardly.
“Oh. Cool.”
We awkwardly stood smiling at each other until he stuck his hand out. I stared at his hand and then at his wonderful face. I finally stopped zoning out and shook his hand.
“I’m Ross, by the way. What’s your name?”
“Megan.” I beamed. “What’s yours?”

“Umm…” He laughed.
“Oh. Duh.”
“If you wanna keep holding hands like this, could you hold my other hand?” He chuckled.
“Wait what?” I blinked. I looked down and realized I was still shaking his hand. Oh gosh.
I giggled nervously and pulled my arm back.

“So what are you doing out here in the pouring rain?”

“Well I was boarding and then it started raining.”
“Oh. Well I can walk you home if you want.”
“Aww. Thanks but I’m okay. You should probably head home before your family starts worrying.”
“Nonsense. I insist on walking you home.” He grinned and pushed the rain-drenched hair out of his face.
I sort of led him to my house and we talked about anything and everything. I nearly squealed when we swapped phone numbers. When we arrived at my home, he waited at the bottom of my driveway to make sure I got inside safely. He waved and started to walk to his house.
“Wait…Ross!” I called and dashed down the driveway.
He backtracked and I finally caught up with him.
“What’s up?” He asked.
“I umm…I didn’t get to say goodbye properly.”
“Oh.” He smiled. I nearly melted every time he smiled and he smiled a lot.

He held his arms out and I wrapped my arms around him. He hugged me tightly and leaned down a little.
“What would you do if I kissed you goodbye?” He whispered dorkishly.
“I would probably blush really hard and smile like an idiot.” I replied already beginning to grin.
“Good.” He said before standing up straight. He kissed my forehead slowly and then looked me straight in the eyes. Sure enough, I was blushing and smiling ridiculously wide.

He took off his guitar pick necklace and placed it around my neck. “I want you to have this.”
“Whoa. Thank you.” I smiled. “I really like it.”
He picked up his board again and stood up to face me with a little wink. “I’ll see you soon, Megan.”
“See you soon, Ross.”

I darted inside with extreme exuberance. I was over the moon and I felt like I couldn’t physically become any happier. I hummed to myself as I ran upstairs. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I saw that I had a text from Ross, who contact name was Blondie in my phone.

I read the text aloud and smiled warmly.

“You found a way to make a rainy day feel extremely bright, cheery, and brilliant. Thank you for being my sunshine.”
