Anna’s POV

I sat anxiously at my school desk and waited for our teacher to hand out our graded work. I had survived the whole senior speech thing and I kinda missed having Ross here at our school. He made things a bit more bearable. I had written an essay and now I was waiting to see my grade. Mrs. Callaghan, our lovely teacher, placed my essay on my desk and did the same for the other students. I looked at my grade and cringed. This was NOT good. I was so gonna be in trouble for this. On the way home, I thought of ways for my low grade to stay hidden. Maybe I could shred the whole essay…or tear it into a million pieces and throw it into the creek near my house…or I could just run away to Timbuktu and never return.

I arrived home and decided to quickly head up to my room so that I wouldn’t have to be social with anyone in my home.
“Hey Anna. I didn’t even hear you come in.” My mom greeted me with a hug.
“Hi. Umm…I gotta….go check on my uhh….” I tried to think of an excuse but couldn’t come up with anything.

“Did you get your grade for that essay?”
“Nope….” I began but then heaved a sigh, knowing that lying was not a smart way to go about this.
I reluctantly handed the papers to her and kept my gaze on the floor. “Okay. Yes I did.”
“Aww. Sweetheart, it’s okay. People make mistakes. Don’t worry. Your grade doesn’t define who you are as a person. I can get you extra help and before you know it, you’ll be acing this class.”
“But Mom….” I whined. “Does this mean I have to stay at school later?”
“Sort of…” She grinned sheepishly.
I sighed. This was gonna be interesting.

The next morning, I woke up dreading the school day. It was Friday so at least the weekend was near. I survived all my classes and waited at a table in the school library. Knowing my luck, I was probably gonna have some old, cranky tutor that hated kids or a really smart yet unprepared tutor or something. My mind wandered and I thought of the worst things that could happen.

“Earth to Anna….” A singsongy voice startled me out of my thoughts. I shook my head and blinked a couple times.
“Ross?” I asked a bit shocked.
“Hi.” He smiled. “You okay? You seemed a bit spaced out.”
“Yeah. I’m good. I was just kinda daydreaming….sorta.”
“Cool. That’s like one of my favorite things to do.” He grinned and took a seat next to me.

“Wait…are you gonna be helping me with my writing?” I asked, trying not to sound too excited.
“Mhmm…although honestly, I think you’re a natural. You just need some encouragement.” He complimented.
I could feel myself blushing. “Awww. Thanks.”
He gave a little wink. “Of course.”

Time flew by and eventually, Ross helped me fix everything and I felt a lot better about the assignment. We finished with my school stuff and we were now just chatting.
“Wait…so you can dance?”  I questioned.
He shrugged casually. “Kinda…yeah.”
“Cool. What’s your favorite move?”
“You want me to show you now? Right here?”
“Yeah.” I giggled.
“Okay fine.” He sighed and slowly got up. I stifled my laughter since we had to be quiet because of others studying.

Ross backed up and started dancing super goofily. He was moonwalking backwards when all of a sudden, he bumped into a lady. She glared at him and he gave her a shy smile.

“Sorry.” He laughed nervously.
“This is a library. Not a dancefloor.” She gritted.
Ross sat back down and as soon as the lady was out of sight and out of earshot, we both laughed at what had just happened.
“Did you see her face?” Ross snickered. “She was like ‘This is a library. Not a dancefloor….blah blah blah’. She was probably just jealous of my smooth moves.”
I went pale when I noticed that the lady who had just scolded Ross was right behind him. He didn’t see her but I did. Ross just kept going on and on about her and I widened my eyes with emphasis, trying to get him to stop rambling about her.
“She’s right behind me, isn’t she?” He whispered.

I nodded slowly and tried not to laugh. The lady frowned and with an emphatic huff, she stormed away.
I glanced at my phone and saw that I had a text from my mom. My dad was still at work, all the buses had left, and she wasn’t able to pick me up today. I could walk but that would take quite a while and I’d be super lonely. I took a deep breath before mustering up the courage to ask Ross to walk me home. Because I lived in New York City and he was from LA, he probably had no idea how to get around here.
“So umm Ross....neither of my parents are able to pick me up right now and I kinda was wondering if you’d be able to walk me home?”
“Sure thing.” He grinned. “I’d love to.”

I sighed with relief. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
We packed up our stuff and eventually exited the building.  We walked and talked as if we were best friends and had known each other for years. A guy in a suit rushed across the street and accidentally crashed into me, knocking me to the ground. The man took a few stumbling steps back and frowned at me.
“Next time, watch where you’re going.” He scowled.

I looked down, not knowing what to say.

“Umm…sorry but should be the one watching where you’re going.” Ross stated. “You should be more careful. You could have hurt her. ”
The guy mumbled an apology before heading off. I grinned at the fact that Ross actually cared about me. We continued making our way to my house and giggled and chatted profusely. Because it was still wintery and icy outside, there were snowbanks lining the busy streets. I slipped on a patch of ice and grabbed Ross’s arm. He helped me up with a chuckle.
“Careful. Ice is icy.”
“No. Duh.” I rolled my eyes playfully.
He picked up a handful of snow and held it up.
“Don’t you dare.” I warned.
“Oh yeah?” He put his free hand on his hip. “Try and stop me.”

Ross chucked the snowball in my direction but it flew past me.
“You should be grateful that I missed you on purpose.” He smirked.
I laughed. “Oh please…you didn’t miss on purpose.”
He threw another snowball and it hit me on the shoulder. He stood there with his arms crossed satisfactorily.
“Alright, alright. Fine. You win.” I giggled.
“I know I win because I’m friends with you so…that’s like the best prize ever.”
“Awww. So sweet.”  I cooed playfully although I kinda meant it.

We walked a few more blocks and finally arrived at my place.
“Do you want to come in for a bit?” I offered.
“Umm sure…” Ross smiled.
I set my stuff down and decided to make hot chocolate for both of us.
“Which mug do you want?” I asked. “I’ve got Batman and Superman.”

“Dude…those both sound awesome. You can pick. I like both.”
“Okay.” I smiled.
I chose the Batman superhero mug and gave Ross the Superman one. We sat on the couch and snuggled under a bunch of blankets.
“Hey look…it’s snowing.” Ross noticed. I looked out the window and saw huge fat flakes falling from the clouds.
“Snow is so beautiful.” I stated dreamily.
“So are you.” Ross added. “Although, you are WAY more beautiful than snow.”

“You are so sweet.”
“No but really, Anna. I mean it. You’re gorgeous in every way possible and I know this is kinda crazy since we haven’t know each other for that long but I love you. A lot.”
My cheeks grew warm and I couldn’t stop smiling. “I love you too Ross. I was just way too shy to admit it.”
He chuckled and put his mug down on the coffee table. I did the same and stared into his handsome eyes. It didn’t even occur to me what was happening until I realized we were actually kissing. After what felt like a million centuries of magical epicness, I sat up straight. Ross looked beyond elated and it was adorable.

“It looks like it’s getting worse out there.” I smiled smugly. “You should maybe stay here until it clears up a bit.”
“I’m very okay with that.” He smirked before crashing his lips against mine. He was gonna be here awhile so we might as well just sit here and kill some time…which of course, neither of us would mind. Ever.
