Love On Me // Galantis & Hook N Sling
Kortney's POV
"Alrighty! Here we are!" My friend Ruthie announced as she pulled into a parking spot.
All five of us girls had squeezed into her Jeep and decided to have a girls' weekend up at the local ski resort. The plan was to snowboard, take cute pics, sit by the fire in the lodge, pull some serious all-nighters at the hotel...you know, all the basics. It was gonna be lit.
Kelsey, Ruthie, Britta, Eva, and I had been looking forward to this weekend for months and I'm fairly certain this would become a new winter break tradition. I was so excited because I had never gone boarding before but the girls had assured me that I'd love it years ago and now I was obsessed.
We instantly dumped our stuff at the lodge and began layering up. I pulled my ski pants over my Nike leggings, pulled on some sports socks, and jammed my feet into my snowboarding boots. Once we had helmets, scarves, and goggles on, the series of selfies commenced. Every now and then, a passerby would give us a weird look but we didn't care at all.
"Guys do these snow goggles make my butt look big?" Britta joked, pulling a funny face and sticking her butt out.
"Yes. Very big." Ruthie laughed sarcastically.
"Honestly guys..." Kelsey began with a sigh.
"Oh gosh." Eva rolled her eyes, anticipating a dramatic remark from Kelsey (per the usual). "What is it Kelsey?"
"Guys." Kelsey repeated for emphasis. "To be honest, I'm really just here for the hot guys."
"Oh my gosh, Kels. You can't just objectify dudes like that." I replied solemnly.
There was a moment of silence before I began laughing.
"But you're right, though!" I wiggled my eyebrows. "There's definitely gotta be some cute guys out there."
Britta, with a Kelsey-level of drama, heaved a sigh. "Too bad they're all bundled up so we won't really get to admire their true beauty."
"Aww but they're adorable when they're all bundled up; the cute little snow bunnies."
"Eww. Please don't ever refer to boys as 'snow bunnies' ever again." Eva pretended to gag. "My lunch just tried to crawl up my stomach."
The five of us laughed for a solid three minutes before heading out the doors. Walking over to where we left our snowboards, I took in my surroundings. Despite all the action on the slopes, this place was calmer and more serene than the city I lived in. It was so refreshing to be detached from technology and inhale the fresh, clean, crisp air. I began to daydream and people-watch but was soon interrupted.
"Hellooooo". Ruthie waved a hand in front of my face. "Earth to Kortney...."
Startled, I jumped. "Oh. Hey. Yes. Umm...alrighty! Let's do this."
The next couple of hours were spent hobbling (half-attached to the board) to the ski lift, sitting, getting off, boarding down the hill, and repeating the whole cycle but it never became boring. I loved it!
Since there were five of us girls, one of us would always have to sit with a stranger on the ski lift. I had managed to avoid that awkwardness the twenty or more times we had taken the ski lift but this time, I was the unlucky one.
I awkwardly stared down at the sparkling snow as a guy sat down next to me, his neon green board dangling off one foot. I could barely see what he looked like because of all his gear but his goggles were up on his helmet so I could see his eyes. And, my goodness, his eyes were beautiful. Like wow.
"Hey." He said, a little out of breath.
I gave him a half smile. "Hi."
"You come here often?"
"My girls and I usually try to get out here a few times over the season."
"Nice." He nodded slowly.
The rest of the chairlift ride was spent in silence as we ascended. Once it was time to dismount, the guy stayed seat and gestured, allowing me to get off first.
'Well at least he was polite. His mama must've raised him right.' I thought to myself.
"Have a good one." The boy said kindly before boarding down the hill.
"You too!" I practically shouted after him. He probably didn't hear me and I probably sounded like an idiot shouting on the side of a mountain but whatever.
Out of the blue, my heart sunk. I suddenly realized I would never see that cute boy again. Ugh. Don't you hate when that happens? You see a cute boy somewhere but then he gets lost in a sea of humans. It's the worst. The absolute worst.

wait guys tbh I'm going boarding for the first time at the end of the month and I'm so stoked and extra lit...but also scared because I'm so clumsy. SOS. I went to watch my sister when she went with our friend and it seems SO HARD. I'm definitely gonna die but I'm hype so...yeah.
