Caitie’s POV
Having a huge house all to yourself seems extremely fun. You can watch all the movies you want, listen to music as loud as you want, and generally just chill out 24/7. In reality, it can actually get a bit lonely. Being nineteen, I hadn’t graduated college yet so at home, I was either doing school or watching wayyyyyy to much Netflix. My family had been out on a “little” trip that I just really didn’t want to go on. They were planning on heading to the East Coast for the weekend but they had been gone all week. I guess shopping in New York City really was all that it was cracked up to be. I was okay with it because it was only my parents who were on the trip since my siblings were all older and didn’t live at home anymore. My parents deserved time alone and I hoped they were enjoying themselves and I was just very happy that I was still in the warm, sunny, golden state of California.
It was almost midnight at the moment and I was in desperate need of a snack. I slipped on a pair of flip-flops and put a hoodie on. I redid the bun that was in my hair and headed out the door with my phone and keys. I drove to the nearest Target because that was the only store I knew of that was open this late. I headed straight to the grocery/ food section and looked for something to eat. I couldn’t decide if I was in the mood for Mac’n’Cheese or Oreos. I decided to buy both. I grabbed the blue pack of cookies and headed off in search of Mac’n’Cheese. I finally found the aisle and there were two guys practically clearing the shelf off all the Mac’n’Cheese. Aww man. I really was in the mood for some. I mustered up the courage to approach them and ask for one box.
“Umm do you think I could have just one, please?” I said gesturing to the basket full of boxes of Mac’n’Cheese.
“Uh…no….” The taller one trailed off. The shorter blonde guy elbowed him in the side.
The tall brunette stood there with his jaw dropped as if sharing one of his twenty boxes was a hardship.“I mean unless you’re storing food for a hurricane that I’m unaware of…” I said sassily
“Sorry….He has a hard time sharing Macaroni and Cheese.” The blonde said with a chuckle. He took a box out of Tall Kid’s possession and handed it to me.
“Thanks.” I grinned. “You sure? I feel bad now.”
“I’m sure. Enjoy and you’re welcome.” He smiled. The taller one with the long brown hair simply glared at me as I held a box. I was pretty sure he was gonna fire lasers with his eyes in a matter of seconds. I shot him a cheeky grin as I turned to walk back up the aisle. I chuckled. He looked so angelic but he was one of those people who had the face of an angel and the mind of a troublemaker. Both Blondie and Troublemaker walked in the opposite direction.
I walked away and decided to go get a basket for myself since I didn’t want to hold everything in my arms. I decided I wanted to get some other food as well. I arrived at the cereal aisle and for some reason all, but one, of the boxes of Frosted Flakes were gone. The last box was really high on the shelf. I put my basket down and stood on my tiptoes, trying to reach for it. All of a sudden, Troublemaker came walking down the aisle. I immediately stopped trying to reach for the box of cereal and pretended I was interested in this healthy cereal that looked like cardboard.
“Hey…umm…I’m sorry about earlier. I guess I was just really hungry.” He apologized. “I shouldn’t have considered food more important than you.”
I blushed and smiled up at him. “It’s alright and I’m sorry I robbed you of one of your prides and joys. I guess I was just really hungry too. You can have it back, if you want.”
“No. You keep it. I have more than enough.” He said sweetly. That was the first time he actually smiled at me. Oh my gosh. Nuh-uh. Someone help me! He has dimples!!! I’m gonna die. I’m gonna die right here in the cereal aisle at Target. This is not healthy…Okay. Calm down Caitie. You’re never gonna see him again. Chill.“Umm well I’m gonna go now.” He said awkwardly.
“Okay.” I grinned at his dorky awkwardness.
“Bye.” He said, beginning to walk away.“Bye.” I replied.
I watched him walk away but then he turned around. Again, I quickly averted my eyes to the box of health cereal so that he didn’t catch me staring.
“Yo did you want me to reach that box of Frosted Flakes?”
“Oh. Umm…sure. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.” He said reaching up for the box.
He took the box down and I held my hand out to take it. Instead of handing it to me, he smirked and took off running. Oh you have got to be kidding me. That little brat…I frowned as I chose whether or not I could catch up with him. I eventually decided to try so I ran after him. I could hear his taunting giggle as he disappeared out of sight. I ran smack into a man in red. He apparently worked at the store and he didn’t look to happy with me. His face was as red as his shirt and I thought he was going to explode from all the pent up anger. MY face was also red because I was mildly embarrassed that I was in trouble.
“Please do NOT run in store. This is not playground. Never has been. Never will be. Please make your final purchases and vacate the store.”
I thought he would leave me to finish but instead he followed me back to where I felt my basket and then followed me to the check out where he “supervised the transactions for security reasons”, as he put it.I was really mad at the Target worker dude and Troublemaker at the moment. I headed to my car and put the shopping bags in the back. I forgot I had a balloon in the back of my car. One of my friends had randomly given it to me in class the other day and I had forgotten that I left it in my car. The balloon began to drift away slowly and I ran through semi-empty parking lot trying to catch it. It was slightly deflated so it didn’t rise as quickly but it was floating on the breeze quite swiftly. I was close to catching when I ran into something cold and metal. I fell forward but then tried to stand up. Oh. I literally just ran into the hood of a car. That could be why I am in pain. Lots of pain. Yup. Not okay. Going down….
