Randi’s POV
I pushed opened the door that led to the ice rinks in the building. With the strap of my duffel bag swung over my shoulder, I made my way to rink #9. Rink #9 was usually empty and there I could put my earbuds in and practice for upcoming performances. I had only been figure skating for a few years now but I had always been on the ice.As I made my way to solitude, I passed the hockey team practicing. They were all taking wins during games but for some reason, I was an easy target for bullying even though I had absolutely nothing to do with hockey or any of the guys.
I timidly walked past the rink when suddenly; the boys began to ram themselves against the glass causing quite the ruckus. They knew I hated when they did that and it also scared me a little.
I finally made it past them and stopped when I saw a cute family skating around and having a good time. The mom flashed me a sweet smile. Oh gosh. She caught me staring. I kept on walkin’ and made my way to the empty rink all the way at the end of the huge hall.
I put my earbuds in and let the music take over. As I was working on my spins and axels, I felt people watching me so I casually turned and caught a glimpse of people looking at me. They all jumped when I saw them and quickly ducked down past the glass of the wall. I went back to skating and caught them watching me again. This time, they ducked down but I skated to bleachers, kicked off my skates, and jumped the gate. I was now walking around in my socks.
“Crap. She saw us again.” One guy said.“Run.” A girl laughed.
Six peeps ran but the tallest one tripped causing everyone else to trip and fall behind him. They all scrambled out of their pile of lanky limbs. Did I scare them away? I didn’t think I was very intimidating.
I went back to practicing and a couple hours later, I finished and packed up. To avoid “scaring” those kids again, I took the long way around all the rinks.
I kept my earbuds in and was listening to my jam. Next thing I knew, I was swept off my feet but not at all in the romantic way had I sometimes dreamed of. As I was practically being dangled midair, I was robbed of shoes and socks and as much as I protested, I was shoved into the hockey rink and there was no easy way out like the other rinks. I’d have to cross the whole entire ice rink barefoot, climb up all the bleachers and then I could get out.
I stood there freezing my butt (and feet) off and was determined not to cry. That’d show the boys that they were winning. Unfortunately, the coldness had the better of me and I actually just started bawling. It was awfully embarrassing and the guys just stood there blocking the door and taunting me. How could they? What have I done wrong?
“Hey. Are you okay?” A voice asked. “Let me help you.”
“No. Leave me alone.” I shrieked. I was literally terrified of everyone and everything at the moment.
“I’m not leaving you here. You’re gonna, like, lose your toes or something. Just please let me help you.”
I turned to see that I was face to face with a tall, good-lookin’, blonde-haired guy. Wordlessly, he picked me up and carried me all the way across the ice in his Converse. I was worried that he’d slip and fall and we’d both die.
“You can put me down now.” I said as we got to the bleachers.“Nope.”
I wiped my eyes and sniffed. “Umm what’s your name?” I asked a little awkwardly.
“Ross. What’s yours?”
“Randi.”
“Cute name. I like it.”“Thanks.”
If I had three wishes at that very moment, the first wish would be no puffy eyes and snotty nose. The second wish; that I would stop blushing and smiling like an idiot and lastly, I nice warm pair of socks.Ross gentley set me down on the nearest bench.
“Thanks for helping me.” I smiled.I tried to stand up but my ankle gave out. I looked down and saw that my ankle was swollen and discoloured. Once again, I tried to walk but I grimaced and immediately sat down. Ross looked concerned and so did his siblings as they approached us.
“Oh my goodness, Girlie. Sit with me. My mom is gonna get you some ice.” The beautiful blonde girl offered. “I’m Rydel by the way.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Randi.”
“Love it!”
“ Alright, Sweetheart. Lemme just put this on your ankle. Riker’s getting your stuff for you okay?”
I smiled and nodded. I had no idea who Riker was but I assumed he was Ross’s brother.
“Oh and I’m Stormie, that’s my husband Mark, the tall brunette is Rocky and that’s my youngest Ryland. Of course, there’s our honorary Lynch; Ratliff.”
“Aww. Nice to meet you all.”
“You should totally come to our place tonight….at least until your ankle heals.”
“No way. I couldn’t. I can totally make it to my house. I’ll be okay.”
“Nuh-uh. You should hang with us.” Ross smiled.I blushed again. “Okay maybe…”
“Absolutely. I swear we’ve got the best cabin in all of Colorado.” Riker said goofily. On the way out, Ross insisted on carrying me to their car.
“Dude. I almost asked if we were surfing tomorrow.” Ratliff laughed when we got to the car.
“This isn’t LA , Idiot.” Rocky chuckled.
“Wait do you like travel to LA to surf or something?” I asked.“We actually live in California. We come here to spend Christmas break with our family.” Rydel explained.
“Oh neato but like I totally don’t want to intrude on your holiday and stuff.” I worried.“You’re not intruding at all Silly Goose. We love you.” Rydel giggled. She was so friendly and I loved her too. I couldn’t wait to hang out with her and the rest of the gang.
