Kat's POV
7:43 p.m.
I jumped back from the laptop and squealed. "Yes! There's a sale tomorrow!!!"
The mall near my home was having a huge blowout sale and all the stores in the mall were having hugs sales and opening extra early. It was kinda a huge deal.
I quickly grabbed my phone to call one of my besties. I hung upside down off my bed as I waited for my friend to answer.
"Yo! Wazzup?"
"RIKER!" I squealed not even paying attention to his question.
"KAT!" He yelled back mimicking me. I couldn't help but giggle and neither could he.
"But seriously, what's happenin'?" He asked.
"Wellyaknowthathugesaleatthemalltomorrow....thewholemallopensatfourinthemorningsowehavetogetthereextraearlyifwewannagetinsomyplanistohaveyoucomewithmeandthenwecanshopandyoucankeepmefromgettingtrampled-"
"Wait...whoa der, Kat. Slow down." I heard Riker snicker on the other end of the line.
"Okay so ya know the sale at the mall today?"
"Yeah. Doesn't the whole mall open at four?"
"Mhmm." I said excitedly. "So my plan was we could meet up and get to the mall early and shop together so we can hang out since I haven't seen you in forever."
"Well we just got back from tour, we have rehearsals in the evening, and...oh umm...I hate mornings." He said flatly.
I did my best to hide my disappointment. "Oh. Okay. I understand."
"Thanks so much but hey Kat, don't get too crazy and try not to get trampled." He giggled. "I miss you."
"I miss you too, Riker."
"Later, Kool Kat."
"See ya, PoopFace."
I hung up and sat on my bed. I guess I had to be brave and tough it out at the crazy busy stores tomorrow.
THE NEXT DAY
3:20 a.m.
My phone alarm went off. I made an obnoxious noise as I forced myself to get out of bed. My annoyance quickly faded away when I remembered that today was my huge shopping day. I quickly threw on some presentable clothes, teal-coloured Converse, and one of Riker's hoodies that I stole.
I hopped in my car and headed off to the store. When I got there, a huge mob of shoppers was a already formed by the doors. Security guards were lining the area trying to get everyone into a line.
I grabbed my wristlet and headed up to the doors. After waiting for half an hour, people started to get restless.
One girl shoved me extremely hard and I fell to the ground. Security guards rushed over to me but I was quickly trampled.
"Ouch." I groaned inspecting the already-visible bruises.
I tried to stand up but that one girl just really didn't want me near her again. Her elbow collided with my side but before I fell over again, I hit another person.
"Sorry...I didn't mean to-....RIKER!!!!" I nearly screamed getting several looks.
"Hi." His voice cracked and he sounded like he'd just woken up. "She shouldn't have pushed you over." He said sounding like an angry baby dinosaur. He wasn't very threatening.
"You said you wouldn't be able to make it." I said gazing into his handsome hazel-brown eyes.
"Yeah but obviously you needed a hero so uh...here I am." He gestured.
"Pfft. I so did not need a hero...I just faked that cuz I..." I couldn't think of an excuse. "Ugh. Fine. You win, Pirate Freak."
We laughed but then stopped as we saw the girl who shoved me over.
"Ma'am." Security guards came to the girl and guided her out, much to her shrieks of protest. "We are going to have to escort you out because of improper conduct."
I heaved a sigh of relief as the girl left.
"Ooh. Be right back. Hold our spot." Riker said finally sounding a little more awake and alive.
Moments later, Riker came back with two travel mugs filled with our favorite tea and a small envelope. He looked like a total dork trying not to trip and spill the tea. It was adorable.
"Okay so I brought you tea and this." He said handing me the tea and the small envelope.
I carefully opened it and figured out that it was a gift card.
I inspected it to see that it was one of those gift cards you could use in the entire mall at all the stores. I squealed again when I looked at how much he put on there.
"Riker...." I said in an amazed whisper. "Two hundred dollars to anywhere in the whole entire mall? You shouldn't have...."
"I know but I wanted to." He smiled at down at me.
"Thank you so, so, so much."
The doors slowly opened as security guards with megaphones tried to direct people.
"Where do you wanna to first?" Riker asked.
"I don't even know, I don't even care." I said sarcastically. "As long as you keep me from getting trampled, that's all that really matters to me."
"Okay. I think I can handle that. I mean look at these guns." He held up one arm to show me.
I rolled my eyes. "Riker, you're wearing a hoodie so I can't even see your biceps and even if you weren't wearing a hoodie, I still don't think I'd be able to see them."
"Ouch." He said pretending to be hurt.
I laughed and took a sip of my tea but then choked and spewed it everywhere. "The tea is hot." I said flatly.
"Pfft. Not as hot as me."
"Oh yeah, well I'm way hotter than you. I said laughing.
"Yeah but that's only cuz you're wearing my hoodie. Anybody looks hot in my clothes..."
"But not you, apparently." I joked.
"Hey! Admit it. I'm stinkin' adorable and you love me for it."
I crossed my arms as we walked. "Nope."
"Say it."
"Nuh-uh." I put my hand to his face and turned away.
He jumped in front of me. "Just say it." He whined.
"Ugh. Fine. Riker you're stinkin' cute and I love you for it."
He exhaled. "Thank you. Now I can die in peace."
"Loser." I mumbled under my breath.
He shot a funny glare at me.
"Sorry." I apologized. "I meant 'adorable loser'."
"Thanks. Much better."
We playfully bantered walking in and out of stores. I loved the fact that he was like my brother. Riker was seriously the best "brother from another mother".
