Cali's POV
8:30 a.m.
My alarm went off and I slammed the snooze button. Mornings were NOT my jam. I had nothing to do today. It was the middle of summer so classes and school were out. Last night, I went to an R5 concert and now I was kinda sad to return to normal life. I got out of bed when my alarm went off the second time.
I checked my notifications and saw that I had a text from Ross. Oh gosh. I forgot. I DO have something today.
I unlocked my phone and actually replied to the text.

Ross: Hey! I'm stoked for today😎

Me: Me too. What are we gonna do?

Ross: It's a surprise.

Me: But now I don't know what to wear😂🙈

Ross: Clothes. Wear clothes.

Me: That's helpful.

Ross: Good. See ya soon!

I put my phone down and stared at my closet. I seriously had no idea what to wear at all. Are we going to the beach? Should I wear a swimsuit? Could I wear a dress? Would that be too impractical?
I had a mental conflict for at least five minutes before deciding on a cute little sundress and some spandex shorts under it just in case. Better safe than sorry. I laid my outfit on the bed. Then I had to decide on some accessories. I grabbed a pair of sunglasses and a few bracelets and put those on my bed too.
Next, I showered, got dressed and did my hair and makeup.
"Ugh. I hate surprise dates." I muttered to myself as if I had been on hundreds of surprise dates before.
Eventually, reality began to sink in. I was actually going out with Ross Shor Lynch. I have day(and night)dreamed about this day happening but I never thought it would actually occur in real life.
I finished getting ready and headed to the kitchen to eat breakfast. Today was gonna be so much fun but I was kinda nervous. I mean Ross can be sorta intimidating but he's just really caring and handsome and cute and weird and I just love him so much.
Oh gosh. We'll see how this goes.
The sound of the doorbell interrupted my thoughts. Without even thinking, I dropped what I was doing and ran out of my room. In my haste, I failed to think things through and ended up dropping my curling wand. The heated styling iron slipped and burnt my arm as it fell. My eyes began to well up with tears. There was another knock on the door and I quickly resumed my hustle. I darted down the stairs and unlocked the front door.
"Hey Cali." Ross smiled as he walked in.
"Hi Ross." I beamed.
"How are you?" He asked politely.
I internally swooned and mentally started planning our wedding.
"I'm doing well. How are you?"
"I'm stoked for today."
"Me too." I grinned. "Is it still a surprise?"
"Yep." He winked.
I was about to grab my bag so we could leave but Ross gently tapped my shoulder causing me to stop walking.
"Hold up." He said. "What happened to your arm?"
"My arm? Oh. Oh yeah. I dropped my curling iron and it burnt me."
Ross's face was filled with concern and compassion.
"Cali," he gasped. "That's gotta hurt really badly."
"Yeah it does but don't worry about it. I don't wanna ruin our date."
"That's ridiculously impossible." He chuckled. "Now sit down and let me help you. There's no way you could ever ruin our date."
I slowly took a seat on one of the barstools in the kitchen. "What if I make us late?"
"Nonsense." He smiled sweetly, before taking my arm and inspecting the burn. "You and your health are the only thing on my mind right now. You're more important."
I swear if Ross said one more cute thing, I'd probably explode with feels. I didn't know it was possible for someone to be so captivatingly adorable.
"You're crying." He looked up at me. "Did I hurt you?"
"No. Not at all. You're just really sweet...and also my eyes are watering because it stings a lot."
"Aww. I'm sorry, Where do you keep your bandaids and gauze and stuff?"
"I'll show you."
I helped Ross get all the stuff that he apparently needed to care for the burn on my arm. He gently pressed a cool cloth against the injury and then proceeded to tell me funny stories to make me laugh.
"If it makes you feel any better, when I was five, I would sometimes run around the house naked just for fun."
"Oh my..." I started to giggle.
"But wait. That's not the end. One time, was goofing around and I thought it would be a good idea to climb into the toilet."
"Eww. That's so gross."
"Yeah but it was clean."
"But still..." I laughed. "The toilet?"
"I was five, okay? I didn't know any better."
"You must have been so cute when you were little." I remarked.
"Why?" Ross began to smirk. "Cuz I was naked most of the time?"
"Yes. I mean no. I mean...never mind. Continue."
"So anyway, I climbed into the toilet but my ankle got stuck in the drain and my mom had to call the fire department so some firefighters came into our house and pulled me out of the toilet. I was mortified cuz I was still naked but everyone else was dying from laughter."
I was laughing so hard, I didn't even realize Ross had finished tending to my arm.
"Your laugh is so contagious." Ross giggled. "I love it."
"Umm your laugh is the best ever but whatever."
Eventually, we were ready to go out. I glanced around the house one last time to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything.
"Shall we?" Ross held out his hand.
"We shall." I allowed to him take my hand in his and we walked out the door.
The car ride to wherever we were going was anything but boring. We jammed out to the radio, got lots of food, candy, and milkshakes, and generally enjoyed each other's company.
"We're here." Ross beamed.
I looked around, trying to figure out where we were. Ross parked the car and as soon as I stepped out, I could hear loud music. I saw "SoCal Music Festival" on a huge banner.
"Oh my gosh! I've always wanted to check out this festival. This is exciting."
"I'm glad you like it so far." Ross replied.
He set out a blanket on the grass and we sat down, enjoying the music and the peaceful vibes. Our picnic blanket was under a huge tree so we cuddled in the shade for at least an hour. We did laid there doing absolutely nothing and yet it was the most fun I had all day.
"Hey, I kinda wanna get a drink." Ross stood up. "Wanna come?"
"Nah. I'm too lazy." I snickered. "I'll stay here and make sure nobody takes our spot."
"You sure? The line is kinda long and you'd be alone for quite a while."
"Mhmm. I'm good."
"Okay. Do you want anything?"
"If they have pink lemonade, could you get me one?" I asked. "If not, don't worry about it."
"Got it." He gave me thumbs up and went to get beverages.
As soon as Ross disappeared in the crowd several feet away, a random guy approached me. I looked up from my phone and sat up.
"Can I help you?" I peered at the guy through my sunglasses.
"I don't know. Can you?" The guy spat.
I began to feel annoyed (and creeped out)."What do you want?"
"You. I want you."
"Leave me alone." I rolled my eyes and turned my phone on again and tried to ignore him.
"Aww." The guy crooned. "Don't be such a-"
"Hey! Leave her alone." Ross's voice instantly relieved me. He set our drinks down before stepping up to the guy. "If you don't start walking away, I will make it so that you're never able to walk again."
"Oh is that a threat?" The guy asked in a patronizing tone.
"No. It's a promise." Ross stepped closer. "Please don't make me fight you and take you down; especially in front of a lady. That's not very polite, Dude."
"Well...whatever, man..." The disgusting man backed away in defeat and then broke into a run.
Ross immediately knelt down beside me. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you? Tell me what happened."
"Ross, chill out. You sound like my mom." I joked. "I'm fine. He didn't even touch me. Thanks for standing up for me."
"Of course. It's my job to protect you if you're ever in danger. I love you and I would never be able to forgive myself if I wasn't able to prevent something from happening to you."
"Aww you're the sweetest. I love you too."
"Okay. Wait. Now I want food and this time, you're coming with me."
"But I'm lazy..." I laughed as he helped me.
"Too bad, LazyButt. Let's go get some French fries."
