Typical day in my life, my crush gets a girlfriend and randomly stops talking to me. Another friendship ruined this year, that makes the tally 683937 now. :):

"Maddie." I look down at Maddie, who sits against the wall of the elevator, clutching her head and crying, sort of rocking back and forth.

She's silent for a long time, then she whispers, "How?" I furrow my eyebrows at her, and she cries even harder. She looks down, then back up and grimaces.

"I can't do it. I can't do it, Ty. I can't do it without you by my side." She whispers and then screams. She shakes her head rapidly, pulling at her thick brown hair, which fades into blonde hair, an ombré.

The elevator has been stopped at the top floor of the Pire for a long time now. We're on the floor where the leadership offices are located. I stand halfway inside the elevator and halfway out, trying to keep the door open as I crouch down near Maddie.

"They killed you, Ty. They killed you!" She exclaims, then rocks herself back and forth and eventually falls over onto her side. I run a hand down the side of my face, then press the button that makes the elevator door stay open.

I race down the hallway, to the end, passing by Maddie's office and Ty's office. I eventually stumble upon Uriah's office and I push the door open. Uriah sits behind his desk, looking at a paper.

"Who the- Oh it's Four." He smiles. "Why are you up here?" He glances down at his watch, "Maddie hasn't made it up here, yet. I don't know where she is." He says as he takes in my panicked face.

I shake my head. "No, Maddie's in the elevator, having a breakdown. I don't know, it's like she's in a simulation. You've got to come help me take her to the infirmary. She's not well." I say, and Uriah nods, putting down the paper and running up to me. We both step out, and Uriah shuts his door, locking it.

He follows me as I race back down to the end of the hallway, to the elevator. Maddie still sits curled up near the wall, her face buried in her knees as she clutches them with much force. Her eyes are red, her skin blotchy, her mouth hanging open as sobs escape.

"I love you too, Ty," she chokes out, "I love you so much. I can never forget you, you mean too much to me." She rambles quickly.

I look over at Uriah, who stares down at her in confusion. I shove him in the elevator, following him inside. I press the button to close the doors, and then Uriah shoots me a panicked look.

"What's she talking about?" He asks in reference to Maddie.

As the elevator surges downward, I explain to Uriah that Ty was kidnapped, which he said that Maddie had already told him, and that they had killed him as far as Maddie and Zeke know, and he didn't know that.

"She thinks that his death is somehow her fault." I say to Uriah, who is now crouched down before Maddie, who looks at him softly. She carefully smiles, as if she's going to shatter into pieces if she is too careless.

"Forever," she whispers, "Forever."

Her eyes slowly begin to shut, and even though Uriah tries to shake her awake, she doesn't budge. She loosens her grip on her knees, drifting off into a deep slumber.
