Chapter 26:

Song of Chapter: Want to Want Me- Jason Derulo

••••

I sit on my balcony, looking out at the moonlight over Chicago. The almost white light reflects off of the metal bean sculpture in Millennium Park.

I sigh. I now get the chance to thoroughly examine my engagement ring, which sits happily and humbly on my left hand's ring finger.

The large white diamond on the silver band gleams in the subtle darkness of my terrace.

My terrace has lights, they just don't work.

I need to talk to Ty about our moving arrangements for after the wedding.

I wonder if we're going to move into my apartment, or his. Maybe we might even move into a new apartment.

I also wonder about children. My parents didn't waste anytime having children. My mother always said that when we were born, it was the happiest moment of her life. My father agrees.

What if Ty doesn't want children? I want children, but marriage comes first. I haven't talked to him about it either.

I sigh again. These thoughts have been eating at my sleeping time; I haven't been able to fall asleep at all tonight. Ty decided to stay here for the night, more or less because I asked him to; he's asleep in my room right now.

I take one last look at the city, looking from the Hub, to the cube shaped houses that the Abnegation live in. It's quite a breathtaking view. I hold onto the metal railing as I walk back inside, letting go as I step away.

I open up the glass door, stepping inside, and then I shut it. I walk through the living room, down the hallway and into my bedroom, where Ty sleeps half off the bed.

I walk to the opposite side of the bed and lay down, looking at Ty. He looks a few years younger in his sleep.

He looks so innocent.

He rolls over, and wraps his arms around me. "Like what you see?" He smirks. "Yes, actually." I giggle. I roll over to face him, and smile.

"Goodnight," I say.

"Goodnight," he says.

This is how life is supposed to be. Life is supposed to be spend with the ones you love right by your side.

I'm glad that I'll be spending the rest of my life with Ty by my side.

I walk to my parents' house to tell my mother about the engagement. I'm going now because Alex is at school, Ty is at work and so is my father, and I kind of just want to talk to my mother alone.

I approach their door, which is near the chasm, by the net as well, and knock on it. My mother opens it up and smiles at me. "Hey, Maddie." She hugs me, and then leads me into the house.

She shuts the door and we both sit down on the couch. "Why did you come over here?" My mother asks me softly, her light brown colored eyes piercing into mine.

I tuck a piece of hair behind my ear with my left hand, then place my hand over my mouth, trying to stifle a yawn. My mother looks at me expectantly, and then her gaze drifts down to my hand. She pulls it away from my mouth and looks at my ring finger. Her fingers graze over the metal that sits on my finger, and she smiles.

"Ty proposed." She says softly, raising her eyebrows, but it comes out in a question form. I nod, grinning. "How?" She asks. I smile, looking down at the ring and then up at the ceiling.
