Chapter 18:
Chapter Dedication: julissssaaThe gunshots continue to go off, causing my ears to ring. My vision is slowly becoming blurred, and I can't see anything. I lay still, acting as if I'm dead. It's probably the Erudite guards coming to get me, anyway.
I can make out the guard next to me, but I can also make out the large pool of thick, red blood. I feel a wetness on my neck and shoulders and I realize that it's his blood. I choke down a sob when I run my fingers over it and see that they're red.
I look back at the guard and sigh. His body doesn't move; his chest doesn't elevate; he's dead; another person is dead because of me.
My vision begins to clear, and I look at the guard, searching for any weapons that he has on him, and I find a gun. I look down at it and remember the heavy feeling of the gun in my hand when I shot Daniel. I bite my lip as the tears form in my eyes, and I almost cry. I look up and see flashing red lights going off; its hazy in here as well, so I can barely see.
I soon decide to take the gun, and I get up off of the floor, walking in the directions that I hear the gunshots coming from. While I'm walking, I hear footsteps. I furrow my eyebrows and hold the gun out in front of me, just in case it's another guard.
I keep walking, and after a few more steps, as I turn a corner, I see people. I hold my hand on the trigger since my vision is still a little blurry and I can't make out who the people in front of me are.
I soon see the blonde ponytail and black-ink covered neck that I can only associate with my my mother and my father. I smile as I run towards them, now dropping the gun to my side. Steven and some other Dauntless guy stand off to the side, but I ignore them.
I just want to be with my parents, who I've missed so much.
I look down at my gun and turn on the safety, putting it in the waistband of my leggings so that I can pull it out quickly if I need to.
"Guys," I say, running up to my parents, hugging them. "I've missed you so much." I whisper once I hug them. I take a deep breath in and I smell the same scent that I've smelt my whole life, sugar and vanilla, a familiar scent in our house since my mother loved baking.
Wen I pull away, I look down at my clothes, which are covered in stains from the guard's blood, and my father notices this immediately wen his eyes scan over my body.
"Did you get shot?" He asks immediately, his rugged voice filled with concern. I shake my head and he nods. "Then whose blood is this?" He asks as he looks at my neck.
"No, uh.. It was the guard next to me," I say quietly as I look around and see the haze begin to thicken. It's getting so thick that I can't see at all. "He's dead."
"Oh," says my father, scratching his neck and walking towards the mouth of the hallway. My mother continues to hug me.
Steven Colsen walks up to me, and my mother smirks at me, walking away. He soon smiles, then kisses me. I pull away rather quickly, and he frowns as he furrows his eyebrows. I pat his chest, then turn and walk away.
Soon after I turn away from him, he shouts, "We need to get out of here!"
I sigh. He's such an asshole, my mind speaks to me. He says it like its not the most obvious thing in the whole world. Of course we need to get out of here.
I soon pull the gun out of my pocket, turning off the safety, and hold it out in front of me as we begin walking through the Erudite hallways, the other Dauntless dude leading us since he used to be a faction member here.
